Hi Everybody,

Relatively new user here. I got 2010 Pro to report a successful install on my HP Pavilion laptop with Vista Home Premium. However, while the burning functions look like they'll work, most everything else refuses to start up. I specifically need to get Label Creator going. I recently had to install a new C drive and am re-installing all my software from scratch. Everything worked before the disk crash, but with the new install (oh yes, I've done all the Vista updates), while 2010 Pro's main shell at least comes up, the secondary apps like Label Creator won't. Any suggestions? - Doug

From the Start Menu – can you start any of them from the Menu tree?

Hi Jim, Nope. Can't start them from the Start Menu either, I did an uninstall and another install (boy does that take a while!) and got the same result. - Doug

For kicks and grins, are you able to test following

1. Turn of UAC
2. Create a new user admin account and test using that account.

Thanks. I tried it and...no kicks or grins. Well, it was worth a shot. Any other ideas? I don't think it can be the hardware since the only thing different there is the hard disk and it used to work. But I'm sure Windows is different from before!

What are your system specs and is VISTA 32 or 64 bit?

Did you try the recommended "clean install"?

I've got Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The machine is an HP Pavilion DV9500 notebook with 4 gigs of RAM. As I wrote earlier, before my new C drive, the Roxio stuff all worked fine. I followed the install recommendation of turning off all the startup stuff in msconfig. Is that what you mean by 'clean install?' Are there issues with either AVG or Carbonite after installation? I had a go round with tech support for a database app which wasn't getting along with Carbonite. Do you think there may be issues with write privileges on any of the folders Roxio apps use that would cause a problem?

No the Clean Install is specific and detailed:

I would add to that, creating a new user account with full administrative privileges and do the Install portion under that account.

And leave the anti virus stuff off during this as well as intial testing after it is installed.

Hi Big Dave,

I followed all the steps meticulously and got everything cleaned up. Then the re-install failed about 2/3 of the way through and it's rolling itself back now. I didn't catch which part of the install failed. I missed the start of the rollback process. Yikes! It's snowing here!

This article is for Creator 2009 but does it seem familiar? http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...14CR&PARAMS=

There is no snow where I am at now and I don't expect any.

Thanks so much for your help - problem solved! Successful install and the apps now come up and run as they should. Uninstalling .NET framework sp1 did the trick. I didn't have to do the last suggestion: renaming or deleting the file in windows system32. Thanks again! - Doug
