Using Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate

I started to create a DVD using a videowave file and selected PREVIEW. Although the videowave file was displaying great, the smartsound audio did not work. When I created the file in videowave, the smartsound played. I did a search on this topic but only located issues with install.

If I add my own audi files via mediaselector, they play fine.

Any suggestions?

Check the Smartsound site for update.

Perhaps you need this update if you are 64 bit:

I tried a couple things:
1) I did update to Sonic Pro 5 - still no sound during DVD preview.
2) Just for grins, I placed one sound file on the MUSIC line and one one the SFX, neither played sound during the DVD preview.

Are you using Smartsound files that you purchased? If not, you won't get them to work.

Grandpabruce,
I used smartfiles that came with the base product. If I recall, it was one of the add ons with Roxio 2009. So those files cannot be used for DVD creation?

BTW, I too just became a grandpa for the first time ohmy.gif)

Yes, you should be able to use the 30 second files that show, when you have Owned, selected, in the Where to Search box.

Congratulations on becoming a grandpa! Life is good.

I installed the 64 bit upgrade as BigDave suggested and even went as far as creating the DVD (even though the preview provided no sound) & as suspected, still no sound using the 'owned' sound clip from SmartSound.

I will send a note to SmartSound but if there are additional suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Problem Solved - sorta:

SmartSound was quick to reply. They indicated the version that came with Roxio 2009 was very "old" and does not work w/VISTA without a plug in (on roxio's site). They also indicated (the odd part) in order to use a file, I first have to EXPORT it to a wav file from SmartSound, then select the wav file when adding to videowave.

Strikes me as odd that the software bundled w/roxio 2009 is called "old" by SmartSound staff but I guess that is why it was bundled. Anyway, I followed the steps from SmartSound (installed plug in & exported a SmartSound file as wav) and created a DVD. The sound file works just fine.

Thanks to those that provided suggestions!
