Now when I first bought this program it worked great on my laptop. But I had some issues with my laptop so I reformatted it and reloaded it back to where it was when I bought it. I then reinstalled all my extra programs that I use and they all work fine. I then reinstall Creator 2009 and it installed but would not work. I could open the program up but it would not open up the sub programs. I then uninstalled it and reinstalled it 4 or 5 times and still the same thing. I contacted Roxio support and they had me do the clean install. Now I can not even get it to installed any more. It gets to about 90% installed and comes up with the message

'You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content' then installer rolls back.

I have now tried  downloading the 2009 ContentDiscError_Hotfix and tried that but that just says

“This is a valid Installation. There is no need to clean up”

This program worked fine before. It seems I am getting further away from getting it to work at all again. There has to be some reason why it will not install.

I have a Hewlette-Packard Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit

You'll have to do a clean install again followed by sp4.  You may also have to delete out net framework 3.5 sp1 via the Control Panel programs.  Roxio will reinstall it.

Clean install instructions for Creator 2009 and 2010 on Windows Vista

Creator 2009 sp4

If you use a registry cleaner or your AV has one then be sure to have it by-pass Sonic and Roxio entries after you get a good installation.

Unrelated question: What video card is installed? See my signature. I can't get Cineplayer to work.

I have done the clean install about 15 times now and I still can not get 2009 to install. It gets about 90% done and then I get

'You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content' then installer rolls back.

I have also downloaded Creator 2009 sp4 but that will not load until you get Creator 2009 installed. I have tried that about 6 times now. I have also uninstalled Net Framework 3.5 sp1 each and every time. I have also tried doing everything in safe mode and Creator 2009 will not install at all. You get a different error message right away when in safe mode.

Have you added or updated any software since the time that you had Creator 2009 working? You might have a conflict and/or software sequencing problem during installation. Have you changed or added any hardware other than your HD since the time Creator 2009 was working correctly?

No I have not added any new hardware or software. My laptop has not been changed since it was bought new. All I have done is a reformat and I used the factory disc to do that. The programs that I have loaded were the same as I had on before when Creator 2009 was working just fine

Ok I turned the user accounts off. Then I disabled all my start up items. I then performed the clean install instructions for Windows Vista. Then I uninstalled Net Framework 3.5 sp1 and then downloaded and installed net Framework 3.5.

I then installed the patch 2009 ContentDiscError_HotFix. Now when I installed that the first window that comes up says
“ This application will remove corrupted Creator 2009 install registrykey, would like to continue?”

I then click yes and then the new window pops up and says
“This is a valid Installation. There is no need to clean up!”

I then click OK and it closes. I then reboot the computer so all my start up programs are shut down as well as my AntiVirus and Security software is all shut down. I install creator 2009 and I still get

'You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content' then installer rolls back

What is different from when you originally had Creator 2009 working and now other than the HD reformat. Were your extra programs installed before or after you had Creator 2009 working?

If you have extra disk space, you might consider creating another partition (use MS dual boot) and restore the original HP system to that partition. Then try the Creator 2009 installation. This is a bit of work but it might shed some light on the issue.

Nothing at all. I am not sure in what order I installed the programs before. All I have installed that is extra is Office, Tom Tom and BitDefender Internet Security and I did all my updates.

Today I was able to solve my issue with installing Creator 2009 special Edition. This is what I did.

For Only the 64 Bit Vista -
In regedit, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
For Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition please look for a folder containing one of the following string of letter and numbers:

{7919D8D9-69FB-4E94-B330-04C4AF251867}
{3383136b-4f864f05-8612-dd4bb16a1eae}
{09EA3E66-F60C-45EF-9C16-6CA2262E21C4}
{7A7B3764-7F17-4AB1-A1D3-3B01F5F07445}
If you are unable to find any those keys, select each folder under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall folder containing the string of alpha numeric characters and look in the panel on the right hand side for any mention of Roxio and or Sonic and delete any that are found. An easy way to do this is to select the first folder and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move up or down the list of folders until you find the one for Roxio or Sonic.
Do the same under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
I then went into the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder and also deleted every folder that had Roxio or Sonic on it. After that I followed the clean uninstall instruction and then reinstalled Creator 2009 Special Edition and it installed with no problem and works great.

WARNING: I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU EXPORT YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY EDITING. EDITING YOUR REGISTRY INCORRECTLY CAN CAUSE IRREPARABLE SYSTEM

DAMAGE.

To export a copy of your registry, please do the following
* Click on Start --> Run 'regedit' in the box and press enter on your keyboard.
* Locate and left click File in the upper left hand corner of the Registry editor.
* Click Export (Export range 'All' should be selected).
* Choose a location on your hard drive and give the file a name.
* Click Save. Your registry should now be backed up in a .reg file to the location you specified

This was done with the help of the Roxio Support Team. I hope this can help anyone else out there that are having the same problem as me and are running Vista 64 bit

Bruce
