Hi:

Have installed Easy VHS to DVD and the SP-2 update  and also have Roxio's EMC 10 Suite installed.

Other software includes:
MMJB PLUS V 10
Adobe Premiere Elements V 4
CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER (soundcard)
I-TUNES V 9

Other Specs:
WinXP SP-3,
Dell Dimension PC 4600
CPU = 2.4 GHz
RAM = 4 GIGs
2 HD's (500 & 200 GIGs)
2 DVD-BURNER DRIVES
Display adapter: Vision Tek Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP
IE 8
WMP 11

Problem:

The preview video screen opens up, but it will
NOT play the VHS tape. I also hear some static-like
sound.

After a while, the following message is seen:
"RUNTIME ERROR:
ROXIO EASY VHS TO DVD\ROXIO CENTRAL 4\
ROXIO CENTRALFx.exe
R 6025
pure virtual function call"

And then the message states that the program has
to close.

If I continue to try to get the screen to play,
the PC will "freeze" requiring a re-boot.

I tested the VHS hardware when connected to my TV
and everything worked ok.

Is EMC 10 somehow interfering with this program??
Should I remove it??
Should I re-install the EasY VHS TO DVD PROGRAM??

Any other suggestions??

Thanx.

Addendum:
Also have DIRECTX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Also have correctly labeled the input video as "composite"--
Easy to do since my old VHS machine I'm now using does not
have an output for S-video.

An aside:
I am trying to convert my son's & his wife's multiple VHS tapes
done on another (unknown to me) VHS machine.
Could my problem be that the component input is a
"mis-match" with the possibly higher (S-video??) quality tapes
I'm in the process of trying to convert??

Thanx for any helpful info.

Is this sudden or has it worked before?

Do you have any other source you can test it with, other than that VCR?

I notice you have XP. Since you do, you can use Windows Movie Maker as a test. Try it with the USB device and see if it will capture.

With the error though I am inclined to think you are going to end up doing the Clean Install – XP

The only conflict is with V2D and 2009. Type of tape doesn’t mean a thing – signal is signal.

Thanx for your quick reply:

1) This just happened after I had installed it 24 hrs previously, without using it at all until yesterday.
In other words, "sudden."

2) With WMM 2 turn on, and the Roxio capture device placed on a USB-2 port & connected to the VHS
machine, the screen in WMM 2 did indeed show the VHS tape (Success!!)

Now, does this basically mean that Windows itself and the Roxio hardware are functioning correctly,
but it's the Roxio software that's at fault??
If so, your thoughts about "I am inclined to think you are going to end up doing the Clean Install
seem correct (unfortunately).

Thirdly, you used the phrase "The only conflict is with V2D and 2009."
I have Roxio's Easy Media Creator 10 installed--NOT 2009. Is the conflict basically the same??
I.E. I have to remove EMC 10 to get Easy VHS2DVD installed correctly?

Finally, If I successfully do what your instruction sheets say, and everything works well, can I again
install Roxio's EMC 10, with VHS2DVD still installed, or can I have only one or the other on the PC
at any one time??

Thanks for your guidance & tips (sites)

“Only” means “Only”…  wink.gif You have V2D but you do not have Creator 2009.

And then it would follow that “Clean Install” means “Clean Install”  laugh.gif

Actually, let’s try one more test first… Use Capture in EMC 10 and see if it works… If you are happy with EMC 10, I cannot think of any feature that V2D comes with that you couldn’t live without…

You are mostly correct. The device when installed with the Roxio Drivers is usable in a wide range of products. – It won’t work with WMM in Vista or Sony Vegas and will never work if you let Windows install its’ own drivers for the device. But while none are supported, there is hit or miss coverage.

Hello again:

I followed your detailed instructions to the letter, basically un-installing
EMC 10 & VHS2DVD, doing the other multiple things in your guide(s)
and re-installing VHS2DVD and - VOILA - the preview screen in VHS2DVD
now works.

If you have any tips on installing EMC 10 (later on for me, once I complete
the copying of more or less 50 VHS tapes to DVD), please let me know.

Thanks again.

No, just install normally. The EMC  10 will have Data and Copy Functions that V2D does not come with.

Short note of interest:

Yesterday, when I opened VSH2DVD, the
preview screen again started not to function
well.

As an experiment, I first hooked up the capture
device to the extension for the USB wiring,
put the rest together as normal, and again
the preview picture worked perfectly fine.

For all I know, I might not have had to go
through the manuevers listed in your tip sheets,
but instead, just change the connection as above.

With this setup, I was easily able to make a
dvd.

Thought this might help someone.

Well that makes no sense whatsoever… If your connection is bad, you will lose more than a preview screen.

But if it makes you happy, go for it!
