I am trying to capture 43 minutes of HD video from my Canon HV20.  The capture function works, but captured video has frequent break ups or drop outs.  My system is Vista 64 Ultimate driven by an Intel i920/ASUS P6T with 12GB of RAM.  I am trying to capture to a 2X300GB Velociraptor RAID0 drive.  So system resource constraints should not be the cause.  I am able to capture this same tape flawlessly with Win Movie Maker.

I am able to convert the .dvr-ms file from WMM to .mpg and edit with using Videowave.  One interesting observation, in panning scenes the dvr-ms playback shows less motion blurring than the mpg file.  Hmmm?  You digital video encoding experts probably have a good explanation.

No explanation; just know that you are not alone. I get the same result with my HV30

Try capturing using HDV Split (free).  It captures w/wo scenes to m2t files.  You can add that file directly to Video Wave.  It will say that it has to make it editable which will take it a few minutes depending on the length of the file.  This is probably quicker and since there is no real re-encoding, the video may be better.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll give it a try.

In a previous post I described a problem capturing HD video from my Canon HV20 camcorder.  The captured video was jerky and showed frequent drop outs and pixelization.

I am pleased to report that I am now able to cleanly capture HD video from my HV20 with Creator 2010 Pro.  I replaced Vista Ultimate 64 with a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64.  I also installed the EC2010 service pack that was recently published.  It's not clear what was causing the problem under Vista or what role the service pack might have had, but the result is good video capture.

I am having the same problem with my HV20. Importing the HD video with Creator 2010 is pointless. It is splotchy and unwatchable. EMC 10 was better.  I have Vista, and the Roxio Service Pack 1 has not helped.  I suppose I will have to get Windows 7 eventually but it seems silly to have to get it for this problem alone. Can anyone verify whether Windows 7 has fixed the problem? Any other things to try short of changing the OS?

AMD Turion 64x 2, 2GB memory, plenty of hard disk space...

I am having the same jerky movement after importing HD video on my HV20.  I've got a computer with ample resources but am using XP Pro - has anyone solved this problem with XP?

I am having the same capture problem on an HV20 Canon that generates jerky movement.  I have a new Dell workstation with plenty of resources but I do have XP Pro.  Has anyone figured out how to import on the XP OS?

If you have an ATI video card, the latest drivers have helped a lot.  If you have an NVidia card, then the older drivers have helped a lot.

The "new" Dell has parts on it that have been sitting there for quite awhile.  Go first to the Dell site and update all the applicable drivers,  If Dell doesn't have a recent (Nov/Dec) driver,  go then to your card manufacturer and get the newest drivers there.  Follow the instructions.
