need help to burn a dvd

have a macbook pro with  matshita dvd-r uj-868 built in
copied to burn folder and when ready to burn , it can't tell size of blank disc so it rejects it
using 4.7 gb 4x dvd+r
says    rw at the top
don't see a brand name except  rw
help please
not an idiot , not a geek either
roxio doesn't even reply
have toast 8 titanium installed

1. What brand of DVD media you are trying to use?
2. Suggest using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media.

I don't understand the part where you say "copied to burn folder." What does that mean? Are you trying to burn a data DVD or a video DVD? From your description it sounds like the drive is rejecting the media. Therefore, try a different brand as firenhancer suggests.

Do not use the Finder's Burn folder when burning with Toast. You're trying to mix two separated disc burning interfaces here.

RW is a logo of DVD+RW Alliance that developed the "plus" format. It does not note a brand.
