i'm trying something i think should be easy - take 7 mpg files from my videocamera, and merge them together in to a movie. i've gotten the video to work, but i cannot hear any of the dialogue - what happened to it? i used the edit video automatically feature, clicked all the videos i wanted to use, but none of the audio seemed to come along. i'm a novice, so may be missing some simple step here...

Try it again, using VideoWave (Edit Video - Advanced). VideoWave is the choice of the gurus, and others.

so, you're saying if it do it with the Advanced feature, it will give me the audio and video? OK, will give it a shot tonight...wasn't brave enough to venture into the land of experts last night...but you've emboldened me!

so, you're saying if I simply do the same process, but in Advanced mode, i will get the audio and video? OK, will give it a shot tonight...wasn't brave enough to venture into the land of experts last night...but you've emboldened me!

I don't know if it will work, for sure, but it is your best bet. I don't think that the worthless (IMHO) CineMagic, even had audio capabilities. I am not sure about that though, because I haven't tried using it for anything, in this version of the software. I don't have time, right now, to try it, either.
