Please help. I am new to Creator 2009 SE with the included USB capture device - I'm connected to an old panasonic VHS-C camcorder. I can see the video, but not hear it, and get an unspecified capture error regardless of where in the tape I try to record. I'm using a Vista machine, SP4 is installed, and I can't figure out what is wrong!

OK - Latest on progress, I get video now - had an interference problem with the USB driver, but I still don't get audio, either during recording or playback. I checked the sound settings - I have a Realtec sound device - microphone, line in and digital input are all enabled and are "working properly", nothing is muted that I can find, speaker volume is up, but still no audio. My video camera only has L audio - no red jack, would that make a difference?

I'm using Vista. My driver for USB capture device is an older version than the one on your post - from 3/6/08 listed as eMPIA, The USB 2861 device driver also has an extra file called window\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys. The only way I got the video without audio to capture was to disable the USB 2861 and leave the USB capture device enabled. Now that I know I'm supposed to have both, I don't know what to try next.

What are yours called in Device Manager (red arrows)?

The Driver File Details window (right side) don't worry about!

Does this look like what you see 'from 3/6/08 listed as eMPIA'?

The USB Capture device looks the same, but I don't have anything called USB Audio Device - I have one called USB 2861 Device with a driver listed as Microsoft provider, 6/21/2006 version 6.0.6001.18000. When the USB 2861 device is enabled, I get the unspecified capture error every time I try to capture from my analog video camera - even though I can see the video on the screen (but can't hear it), it won't capture anything - the file it tries to create is empty. With USB 2861 disabled, it will capture the video fine, but no audio to go with it.

I have to boot into Vista and check the drivers. It looks like your driver for the device are half Vista and half XP!

Leave it to me to make a mess! Update drivers didn't work - Microsoft said I had the most current drivers, but in light of what you said, I uninstalled the USB device, deleted the drivers and started over. Re-install worked and I got both video and sound without a capture error! Thanks for your help!!!!!!
