Hi Gary,
Thanks for the response. First I used the "Snowman" menu style and now the "Snowflake". I did move the buttons around some and changed some of the button themes for "Snowman". In the "Snowflake", I went with the default button styles, but have same problem. In this case, on the Chapter screen, the pictures and embedded video per Chapter (which is a feature of the "Snowflake" theme) are present, but again I can not select them. When using the arrow keys, I see some lines appearing above Chapter 1 and 2, but can not select Chapter 3 or 4 at all, nor can I select the "Next" chapter button. It is really hit and miss as to what Chapter is actually selected since it is very difficult to tell what is being selected on the screen. In preview mode, it works fine and the mouse is able to select the chapters fine.
I am now going to try to render using software which I see from other posts have helped with some issues - although they do not appear related to this one.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit with 4 GB memory.

Same thing happens to me.
I had another thread going in the "Video Capture and Burn" category. I have not worked it out and tech support keeps sending me generic emails about "defraggging" and "make sure your drivers are up to date."
I did pick up some good advice on other posts, seems like a lot of people have the same problems I am having. Of course, I seem to be having all of them.
I am not at all satisfied with this program. I have not been able to get one thing to work correctly, yet.
One thing that helped, was to burn at 1/2 speed and limit content to 1 hour max.

Thanks for the info. You know, Roxio has some great features - like slideshows to video and music generally work quite well, but I've purchased the Roxio Media Creator for the last 5 or 6 years, and it is not completely stable, which is unfortunate. EMC 10 (version before 2009) was very much a challenge to install as well. Finally got that going.
I also think the video is choppy and will try at S/W encode. I can't see how defragging would make any difference and my drivers are up to date.

I guess my frustration is showing. I am new to this, bought what I consider a "souped up comptuter" (at least for me) so that I could copy and edit a few VCR tapes to DVD as well as create a few videos for the grandparents.
I actually love the interface, how you can bounce back and forth between MyDVD and Video Wave, etc..
To contribute to this topic, I was using the "default" template, which I think is "Blue Silver" It's the one that pops up when I first open MY DVD. (I have made no changes).
Additionally, I can't change the music on the root menu or main page. I can change it all day long, but it only works on submenu pages. I guess it doesn't matter because I can't make a DVD menu work properly anyway.

Changing the Main Menu audio is easy. First, go the menu and mute the default audio. Click on Edit Background which brings that up in Videowave. Add your audio there. Click 'Back To Main Menu' at the top of the preview.
How you navigate buttons with a DVD remote is determined by the order you add the videos. When you start moving those buttons around, it can appear to be messed up. Also the buttons have an invisible 'box' around them. These bounding boxes can not overlap. You should be getting a warning if they do when you try to burn.

Now we're getting somewhere, I think. BTW, not trying to hijack this post, but I am having the same problem as the originator.
I have been doing as you do, lots of editing prior to burning. (About 30 min edit per minute of video for short clips). Occassionally, when I test prior to buring, I'll see something that needs to be trimmed or adjusted, so from MyDVD, I'll bounce over and make the quick edit and then back.
I don't think I have been overlapping the bounding boxes in the menu, but I have been moving them around so they look better. That may be part of the problem.
The changing of the menu music may be a bug in the program.
I follow this process.
Select the menu/frame so it is highlighted in gray.
Click Change Menu Audio
->Smart Sound
->Browse by Libary
->only 1 option comes up "New Standard 22k"
->Select Title and Vairation (for example "hot and spicy - salsa)
->OK
Then when I move into preview on MyDVD, I get no music on the main page, even if I save project before previewing. Error occurs on main page only so far. Original music disappears as well.
menu music, select a file. It works on submenus, but on the main menu, I get no sound.

I've checked the bounding boxes and they are fine and again, everything works as expected in Preview mode. I've burned a disk in software rendering mode - took hours and will try that. Clearly, there is a problem and I've also logges with customer support.
I've alo been able to edit main menu audio directly in "My DVD". i am not infront on the PC for editing my it allows me to browse to another audio file. I've actually had different music for each of the main menu and chapoter menus. I believe there is a "Change Menu Audio" but in programs like Adobe Premiere Elements a few years back. the adding of an audio track to the menu through the tracks / timeline view is probably just as good.

"Clearly, there is a problem" - what problem are you referring to?

The original problem with not being able to access Chapters with the DVD remote once the DVD is burned, i.e. the original post. Roxio support suggests I try a new movie using the default chapters and see what happens. I am actually considering another video card to see if that helps - since I would like something more powerful.
Thanks for your response.

I had exactly the same problem but after trying one or two options I resolved the problem by burning to my DVD on H.Q high quality burn. ie, when the green bar goes right across to the right hand side. Prior to this I was using s.p. I dont know if this will work for you but you can try it with out
too much of a hassel. Let me know how you go on. Or if you need more information. Best of Luck.

IT WORKED!
I first reduced the length of the production from over 2 hours to probably 1 hour and a bit and selected HQ and burned a DVD. It worked flawlessly. So this should be logged as a defect but for now, it is working. Now, I'll take the copy and remove the 1st half of the Production (movie) and reburn the last two chapters and I expect it should also work.
Thanks so much for your suggestion!
