I am a new user to a Sony XR520. Previously I have filmed to mini DV, and have kept all my tapes of important footage.
Now with the new camera it goes to a hard drive, and I am looking for a storage space for my footage. I saw that Toast, using AVCHD archive, could back up the entire HD video from my camera to a disc.
I have started this process and burnt my first disc, but cannot import it into Final Cut Pro, in fact the Mac does not even recognise any of the files.
Am I missing out a step? Has anyone worked with this? Do not want to burn any more discs if they are of no use - they take a considerable amount of time to do!

I don't have an AVCHD camcorder so I can't test this. But Toast Help says that applications such as iMovie treat the AVCHD archive disc as a connected camcorder. So maybe you aren't trying to import the video from the disc correctly in FCP. Insert the disc and use the import settings in FCP that are the same as when you try to transfer directly from the camcorder.

Thank you sooooo much. Have just tried using iMovie and it worked, and I know I can import an iMovie project into FCP. My FCP is busy logging at moment, and will try importing via log and transfer later. Thank you, thank you!!! happiness is ....
