I am using formac's tv card in my powerbook for recording tv and this saves them as an mpeg2 muxed file which if I then drop into Toast 6 makes a good copy and doesn't encode the file. But if I edit out adverts from the file using formacs supplied software and then resave (which keeps the file as mpeg2 muxed) when I then drop the file into Toast 6 it say's preparing for a while which I presume is seperating the audio and video but then it say's encoding. This takes a long time and the end quality is poor also wide screen is streched even wider. Is there anything I can do as it is useful taking out the adverts?

Toast Encoding Mpeg2 Files?

The easiest solution for this is to get Toast 7 which has a setting to prevent re-encoding of MPEGs.
Another option might be to use either MPEG Streamclip or Capty MPEGEdit EX to trim the commercials from the Formac MPEGs.
One other thing to try, does the Formac software provide the opportunity to save as separate video and audio streams instead of as a muxed MPEG? If so, give that a try. You drag the .m2v file to Toast and it either automatically adds the matching audio file or asks you to locate it.

I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I tried again several times since posting and even with unedited video it's now re-encodes. Not sure why. I did also try exporting the file from formac as seperate audio and video like you suggested but when I dropped in the video (audio was added automatically) to toast it said it was now 55mins long and it still re-encoded.
I have now bought Toast 7 and it is downloading as I write but very slowly around 15kbs I think there server must be slow as my connection is much quicker and working fine on other sites (only 3 hours to go).
