This was taken out of another thread, so it lost context.

I get this crash everytime I attempt to convert video from a DVD to any type of video file.

I can use the video converter to convert WMV to MPEG-2, but not DVD to WMV.  I get this APPCRASH.

The answer is yes.   I can use Videowave to convert to both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.   That's a useful workaround.

Any other test you want me to run on the converter program (can do after work today)?

I wanted to make sure it was not the File you were trying to convert in VCC…

If that file works OK in VW we would assume that something is wrong in VCC… I like to make sure before the next steps!

First step is to try the Repair from Add/Remove Programs.

If that fails to improve things, then the full Clean Install would be in order:

Vista/Win7
XP

Let us know, I would like to pursue this to a happy ending laugh.gif

I followed the instructions provided and a couple of hours later, I still have the same problem, although the APPCRASH looks slightly different.

This occurs after caching the movie from DVD and just as the video conversion starts.

Has anyone looked at this trace information?

I should add that I couldn't get the repair function to work (could not find burnmgr.msi), so I followed the clean install instructions for Vista.

It still doesn't work after copying to a hard drive first.

So I tried using a couple of different DVDs and they DID work.   (One hung at 100% complete, but the file was on the disc, and the other DVD worked flawlessly.

So it seems that this is an encoding problem with this specific video.

At this point it looks like this will work for me in many cases and I can use the Videowave workaround for the ones where it doesn't.

I'll ask again - did anyone look at the APPCRASH info?   Seems like that would point to the faulty code path....

You're posting to user forums, not Roxio Tech Support, so it is hit and miss, whether or not a normal user can find anything that points to a faulty code path.

Oh, I thought the digital gurus were with Roxio... Sorry about that.

Looks like I have a bug to report to them.   Is there another way to do that?

The file will convert using videowave (this was determined early in the thread).  So there is a workaround...

The video is from a CD/DVD set - James McMurtry - Live In Europe.   I was trying to move the DVD video to my computer and then to a portable device.
