using a Vholdr Contour hd helmet cam which creates clips as .mov files.  When opened in video wave the time line for the native audio is there but no audible sound.  I can add music to the audio track, just fine but I want to be able to fade the native audio in and out as needed.  when moving the "line" in the native audio all the way up to +6 still silent.
Is there an issue with .mov files?  or some sort of special import i need to do?   the clips  play fine in quicktime.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Have you tried changing the extension of the file to .mp4?

Sometimes audio is recorded in mono and doesn't do well in Videowave.  Maybe read here?

If you have 2010 Pro, then you have Bias Sound Soap (if you installed it).  Open that, add the mov file and then output the audio to wav.  Open Video Wave, add your mov file and then add the captiured wav file to the music track.  It should line up exactly.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Latest version of quicktime loaded last night, still nothing on the native audio timeline. Should it be showing some sort of oscilliscope type representation of the sound?  It's just a "line"
Dumb question, but do you have to load the native audio, or does it "come with" the video when you add video.

Changing it to a .MP4 appears to really degrade the quality of the video.  was HD  but looks very "pixelated" when changed, basically looks horrible. not a solution..

usually with something like this software wise there is some setting that is off. (AKA pilot error)  as obviously it works for others.  so hopefully someone knows the answer.

Thanks for the help !

I'm not doing anything special.  Videowave load the files fine for me.  When you change the extension to MP4, do you get sound?  Preview is low resolution and has no affect on the final output.

I did in my post above. smile.gif  When you view the file in the lower right corner, there is a link 'Download version'.  I tried several.  The base jump is 1080p.  Most of the others are 720p.

OK so just to be super specific,  do I need quicktime Pro, or just the latest free version off the web.  I did a test with other sources last night my regular video camera makes .avi files and they sound fine....  So Im thinking I need to pop $$ for the quicktime pro...

opinions??

Thanks Again !

Try doing a repair for C2010. Maybe something in the registry was corrupt some how.  If that fails, the only other suggetsions would be an uninstall / reinstall of C2010.

Will Do.  Thanks for the help.  Just to try it out I bought quicktime pro, and converted to .avi files, seems to work ok.  Any advice on which format will retain the best video quality would be appreciated just in case I can't get it to work..

Thanks!

I did a complete re-install last night, still not working.  At this point I'd have to say I'm just plain frustrated...

Sounds a lot like an issue I had a few years ago with Discreet's CleanerXL transcoding package. If you open the problematic file in Quicktime, and then select "Window -> Show Movie Inspector" from the Quicktime menu, what is in the "Format" section of that information panel? If the Format descriptor yields only video-information, then your game may already be over, as this is typically indicative of a clip with no audio-track present. If the Format section indicates an audio-format, like 8-bit unsigned or somesuch, then there may be hope for you.

In my case, the failure was with a .mov audio-format that was somewhat unusual (but would play in QT) and could not be used in CleanerXL (and most other editing/transcoding packages I tried at the time.) The solution for me was to (and I needed QuickTime Pro to do this) export the file with a more customary QT audio-format and then all was well.

Its been too long for me to still recall what the specific offending audio-format was, or for that matter what the proper default format should have been, but the details seem remarkably similar to your current situation anyway.

I encountered the same problem and came up with this solution after much trial and error.

Step 1 - open the desired video clip in Quick Time
Step 2 - select Export and "Options"  - Keep Video Options Unchanged  - Change Audio to AAC Formate and check off "Show Advanced Settings" box
Advanced Settings for Quality set to "Best", Encoding Strategy Set to "Constant Bit Rate" and Target Bit Rate to "Recommended".
Step 3 - give the file a distinctive name and save it in a location where you can later find it to place in Video Wave (or whatever function desired).

Hope this helps.

The suggestion that Vahmonter posted got me thinking, since I've been having the "no audio" problem with my mov, (H.264), video since Creator 2009. I've been dealing with Roxio's "Helpless Desk" who could only tell me that I was doing things wrong and to reinstall the software.

An original HD .mov, H.264, video has about 60 frames per second at 48 kHz and around 3.11 mbits/sec. This HD format when used in Creator 2010 experiences problems such as no audio or choppy video.

Take the same HD .mov video, open it in Quick Time Pro and export it as an mp4, H.264 video with 30 frames per second at 44.1 kHz and 394.40 kbits/sec and Creator 2010 will use the video to create a DVD or other format video without any problems.

It looks like Creator 2010 will accept an H.264 video as an input, but only if it's not high definition. If you don't have Quick Time Pro and you're not pleased about spending another $30.00 for it, try setting your HD video camera to standard rather than HD.

New user, with Creator 2010 Pro.  Had problem with native audio from vholdr camera recording in 1080p & 720p in stereo mode.  The only change I did was to rename the extension from .mov to .mp4.  You do not need QuickTime Pro to do this, this can be done through the windows explorer menu.  You just need to have the file extension visible to change.  I haven't verified video quality yet but initial glance appears that it is unaffected.

1.Click Computer in the Start menu.
2.Press the Alt key on the right side of your keyboard.
3.A hidden menu will appear in the Computer window. Click Tools and then click Folder Options.
4.Click the View tab.
5.Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
