I'm reinstalling 9.0 on a W7 64 bit pc. I have the original install file, RoxioEMCSuitev9[1].0_efisd_R03.exe, which I downloaded from Roxio when I purchased the product. I also have an updated file, with the file name RoxioEMCSuitev9.1Updater_1Z26QZS0RU3.exe.

After installing the original file to the D drive, I run the updated file. But instead of wanting to write to the location of the original install (D), it tries to install to C:, as if the original is not loaded on the pc. If I let it run, I think I'll have 2 different installs. If I uninstall the original and try to run the Update file, it says it can't find a previous version to update (makes sense).

Any recommendations on the proper way to do the installs?

And once I have this figured out, would I then install SP4?

Thank you

The first issue is that Creator 9 wasn't designed or supported under W7. If you do what to give it a go, then do a clean install of W7, apply all the MS updates and then try installling Creator. It might or might not work. Your best bet is to go with Creator 2010. I wouldn't install an antivirus product until after you have a stable system.

After the first install to D drive, you'll see 300-500mb of the first instalation on drive C..

Every program you install on D drive will have some of it's components on C drive.

Like Big Dave said your version is not compatiable with W7...

OK. So I need to move on from version 9. I've completed the uninstall of the entire program but I'm receiving a Driver Not Compatible error message when I reboot. The driver is listed as Sonic Solutions DLA Driver. I've deleted all known Roxio and Sonic folders and registry entries, but the error continues to show.

How to I resolve the driver incompatibility issue?

Thank you

It's probably in the Windows\System32\Drivers folder.

I see six files from Sonic in my EMC 9 Deluxe system drivers folder, and I'd tend to suspect any of the first four as  being part of the DLA component installed by Drag2Disc in EMC 9.
dlacdbhm.sys
dlartl_m.sys
drvmcdb.sys
drvnddm.sys
nv4_mini.sys
RxFilter.sys

I suggest you look in your drivers folder, and if you find any of those files then remove or rename them. Attack them one at a time and you'll see which is causing the problem.

EDIT:
I went back and had a look at the filter driver load order in my EMC 9, and found two of those drivers installed as lower class filters. I've bolded them above.

Since they are installed as filters, just removing the files might cause Windows to stop seeing your drives. You might need to follow the Microsoft KB article HERE to bring the drives back, OR if you're familiar with editing the registry you could edit the LowerFilters entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} to delete dlacdbhm and drvmcdb from the filter list.

Sorry this is so complicated, but it's what sometimes happens when you try to install incompatible software.
