Can anyone tell me how to get Direct CD off my computer or where to get a driver that will work with Windows XP. It has never worked and every time I reboot my computer I get a message saying that Windows has disabled it because the driiver makes Windows unstable, or something to that efect. Today I got a window open up from the Help and Support Center say there is a driver installed causing stability problems with a link to Roxio to get a driver that is compatible with the OS. I can't find anywhere on Roxio where they have a driver for it. I know something was screwing with my computer today and if anybody can give me a solution I would appreciate it. I don't need this program but I don't know how to remove. It does not show up in my Add/Remove programs and I don't see it in my list of programs. I do remember downloading it in the last 6-12 months.

Thanks.

See if there is anything under 'Adaptec' in add/remove programs - that was where I found it after I made the mistake of saying "install" when I tried to read an ECDC 4 DirectCD disc on WinXP.

I assume you are already aware that Packet-Writing (DirectCD, Drag2Disc, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc) is not a wise choice for long-term archiving, since you say someone else apparently did the deed sad.gif

See if it is listed if you download and run Revo Uninstaller.  Use the moderate mode and read any questions and warnings.  If it is not there, then download Microsoft Installer Clean-up utility.  Be careful there also or you might have to reinstall some software.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I'm getting the same thing with Windows Vista Home Premium only it tells me that the driver for Roxio DirectCD is incompatible with my version of windows. I get this message with every boot session! I chatted with Roxie tech support and they told me that DirectCD is a "legacy" program and is no longer supported so I would need to talk with sales for an upgrade. When I told them I just wanted to remove it from my system I got a canned response directing me to sales and they disconnected !!! I guess we are on our own!

Can anyone identify the driver(s) associated with this program???

Did you try the above suggestions?   sad.gif   Since achil didn't come back to say it didn't work, I would have to assume that it did.
Drivers?  f there are no compatible drivers, and Roxio doesn't plan to issue new ones, what would you do with the information?
The program is in limbo and if it is not listed in the Programs and if it is not listed in Revo Uninstaller, then the microsoft installer clean up utility will work.

New to this...didn't realize I broke the rules! Anyway, if I can identify the driver(s) maybe I can remove them and solve the problem. I don't want to use or upgrade the program...I want it off my system!!! I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and it does NOT show the Roxio DirectCD program in the list.

Okay, so the next thing is the microsoft uninstaller, suggested just below the Revo Uninstaller.  Any luck with that?

As I said earlier, look for ADAPTEC.  It is NOT a Roxio program, it's from the earlier Adaptec.

And to clarify something - this is not a "real-time" chatroom, it's a permanant forum.  Therefore, instead of saying "oh, this is the same subject", it is wiser to READ the entire thread and see if it already has the info you are seeking smile.gif

Sigh . . .

Adaptec supplied Direct CD when they owned Easy CD Creator, version 4 and before.

Roxio supplied Direct CD in Easy CD Creator 5, and they supplied Drag-to-Disc from the dark days of Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 until Easy Media Creator 9.

In any case, here are the drivers running in my Easy CD Creator 5.3.5v with Roxio Direct CD 5.3.5 as we speak.
fdlo_5.3.5.jpg

The Roxio drivers there are cdralw2k.sys, pwd_2k.sys, and cdr4_xp.sys. Pwd_2k is the "Framework for Packet Write Driver" which is installed by Direct CD. These files live in the \Windows\System32\Drivers folder. Careful how you remove them, or you might cause Windows to lose your CD and DVD drives temporarily.
