Hi everyone,

Since installing Creator 2010 I've run into a problem that I haven't seen in any previous version that I've used (EMC 7, 8, etc).

My typical workflow is to render out "MPEG 2 for DVD - Best Quality" in Videowave and then use the rendered mpg files in MyDVD. In the past, when I've done this, MyDVD is very quick to "Smart Encode" (or whatever it's called) all of the mpg video since it's simply just "passing it through."

With Creator 2010, no matter what I've tried so far (different settings, different quality level, SmartEncode on/off, software/hardware render, different mpg files, etc) it always wants to re-encode the mpg files - even when the output settings exactly match the video properties.

I've been creating DVDs with Roxio stuff for years and have never seen this... any ideas?

Thanks,
Steven

In my case, a reinstallation of Creator 2010 solved the "smart render" issue.

For rendering, there is the "Same as original" option in Creator 2010; I use that one.

Clean install Windows XP

Clean install Win 7 and Vista

Why do you find a need to output in VideoWave? Unless you having a problem, with a certain .dmsm file, in MyDVD, I sure don't see the point in outputting from VideoWave, then using MyDVD to burn that output file.

It isn't going to take any longer, to render that initial .dmsm file, in MyDVD, than it did when you output it from VideoWave.

For some reason, Roxio changed the bitrate for Videowave's output at Best Quality. It's now 9Mbps which MyDVD will always re-encode. Use Better Quality is which now 8Mbps (the old Best Quality).

Thanks for the tip but that doesn't appear to be the issue. Both VW & MyDVD are 9Mbps Best/High Quality. I did do a test though, by rendering some video out at 8Mbps in VW and tried it at various settings in MyDVD (HQ, Same as Original and a Custom setting using 8Mbps) and it didn't make any difference. It still wants to re-encode each time.

It's very puzzling, I'm not sure what to try next...

Thanks,
Steven

Update: I've gotten good results by deleting and re-adding the movie in question. My "menu" as such is only one image and one button but perhaps something got disassociated somehow when I originally set it up? Now when I burn it, it goes straight to the mpeg circles screen and does not show the preview. I've been able to recreate this behavior multiple times. The mpg file is still the same file as in my original question (output at VW Best Quality and being burned in MyDVD at High Quality).
