When a DVD disc is inserted the Roxio disc icon appears on the desktop. When I double click on the icon it brings up ImgBurn which I have on my computer. It figures I want to use this to copy the disc or make an ISO file. When ImgBurn is uninstalled it brings up ATI Media Center, another of my programs. Is there a way to control which program will be selected when double-clicking the Roxio Desktop Disc Icon when a disc is loaded?
Would welcome any suggestions.
Thanks!

Hello,

Is this the "Roxio disc icon" you're referring to? It will usually appear for the first time near the lower right corner of your screen. You should also see a little word bubble down on your system tray saying "What is Roxio Burn?"

If you click once on this icon it should expand to look like this. Clicking the part showing two discs will invoke the Roxio copy program. The right bottom button is for the menu [see the second picture], and the button above that ejects the disc.

If this is the icon you're dealing with, double-clicking it with a video-DVD in the drive should play it and with a data disc in the drive it should show you the contents of the disc.

This is how it should be behaving. If it isn't then your Creator 2010 may need a Clean Install to straighten it up.

I understand what you are saying and I admit the way I posted the question could be confusing. What I am looking for is some control over the application that is opened when you double click the desktop icon. For example I have three applications that can play movie files. When I double click the icon with a DVD loaded, seems like there should be come way to set which program will be opened.

The icon that Beendon displayed in his photos is "dedicated" to the Roxio Burn program and has nothing to do with playing DVDs.
Why don't you simply create a desktop icon for each of the applications that can play movies?

Nope, sorry. I've been digging into this one for an hour and I can't find any way to change the behavior of Roxio Burn so that it will select a particular third-party application when you double-click on the icon. I thought it might default to the autoplay selection, but no such luck. I guess it can only be used for what the help file says:

Use Roxio Burn to-
Copy discs
Burn files onto discs
Erase discs

Regards,
Brendon

Change your DEFAULT PROGRAM setting and or your "AUTO PLAY SeTTING" from the Control panel on Vista.
On Windows7 : Click Start > Default programs

ie,.. DVD movies------ "Play with...... always." whatever player you prefer or set it to "ask me everytime" on Auto Play settings

So simple and obvious but apparently not to me at the time. I use XP but same deal. The answer I was looking for. Thanks Ripperfreak!
