I'm so frustrated I feel like flaming Roxio more then EVER in my entire life!
Functions don't work, and it decides to just quit on me losing half hour of work and that's because I'm so used to it, I save every so often. But many times, I get involved w/my work and I forget to save often enough.
I've used Roxio for the past probably 10 years (I think back then it wasn't called Roxio).
I try to change thumbnail on a scene selection in MyDVD... it doesn't.
I try to change menu background, works on all my menus except one in the middle of all my menus.
... and I find the menu creation future real convoluted, but then it could be me!
I tell you, right now the way I feel, if I find a better product I'll switch, I'm sick and tired of putting up w/this awful application! I can't handle the stresss!

BTW: I just upgraded to Creator 10 on Vista, using a Dell 4GB laptop, plenty disk space, latest OS updates, 2.4GHZ Intel Duo. Fresh install.

PS: Whos the hell designed this forums interface? He needs to go back to the drawing board! angry.gif

Clear something up, you said you "just upgraded to Creator 10"???

Now EMC 10 has been out of production for over a year… Do you mean Creator 2010, which is in production now?

If you want help you need to be specific about a problem. Generally, laptops make poor video platforms because they don't have a video card.

Has it ever run on that Lap?

What did you "upgrade" from?

I have Creator 9 on my desktop (built by me similar specs, except 2g, and win2k pro). I always assumed it was because I'm on an old OS and old creator (no it's not 2010).
Laptop came w/Creator Premier SD 10.1. Removed it.
So I installed 10 on my laptop for trial purposes in hopes it does better, but same.
Detail? Well, as I said,  I try to change thumbnail on a button that leads to the part of the movie I want. It goes thru the motions, but it does not change, it's still a black screen (start of each panel is black).
On one menu, I try to change the background pix, allows me to select jpg, but it will NOT change it.
Shortly after doing all these fruitless actions, it just quit on me and went back to the main screen of Roxio.
Next msg. I'll explain I'm not an idiot, I may not be using creator to it's potential or the most efficient way, but then again, it's not my profession to do this.

Thanks for the interest to my frustration!

Just so no one here thinks I'm an idiot, all though I may not be using Creator the most efficient way, or even using all it's capabilities, I'm not and idiot....
Here's a quick and dirty resume.

1. Designed pc art work for various digital circuits.
2. Designed digital circuitry for various projects.
3. Written many apps for various business on Medium frame computers.
4. Services Medium to Main frame computers.
5. Written macro and micro code for main frames.
6. Wrote BBS application for major company.
7. Developed websites.
8. Worked on Macs PCs LAN WAN, worked on Y2K implementation project.

... and much, much more!

So I'm not an idiot!

I'll spend the money to upgrade, will it help? The last two versions failed the same way...

I guess I need to get off my rusty dusty and upgrade my desktop to Vista. I have it, but have not installed it, procrastination....

<snip>

Creator Premier SD would be an OEM [Original Equiplment Mfgr] Version, built to the specifications of whoever manufactured the laptop it came with.

It may have portions removed or de-activated (almost always that means LARGE portions), and it may or may not work with any other burner or computer or Operating System.

That is very likely where the problem is.

I have Easy Media Creator 10 running on a HP Laptop under Vista 64 and I am not exoeriencing any of the problems you are describing.
Most likely something wrong during the install. Did you do the clean install process?

I'm sorry, perhaps I did not make myself clear. I REMOVED OEM version 10 and installed full version 10. Yes, I assumed the OEM version is not complete in most cases, that's why I replaced it with the full version.

Well, after removal of the OEM version, reboot and selective install of Creator 10, did not install the cian player (spelling).
Reason of skipping the cian player is due to earlier attempt to install over the OEM version, it was not able to find the CPDP.msi, even looked for the friking file on the web w/undesirable results, and I really don't care for this portion of the pkg. anyway, not for now. I got to get this darn project out!

I experienced same exact challenges on two different machines, two different OSs and different versions of Creator.

This will be a bit lengthy.

Objective of project:

Assemble a number of avi movies, each averaging 205MB into a DVD making each movie into a chapter/episode, 5/DVD.

Using EMC 9 installed back when it was first published on a home brew using ASUS mother board, running win2k pro with all the updates on 2 gig macthed pair mem and Intel core 2 duo using Nvidia Gforce 7300 LE video controller and LG GH22LP20 'super multi' burner less then a year old with lighscribe.

1. Using 'Edit video' assemble the 5 avis into one move, created the chapters by using the auto create by chapter at beginning of panels.

2. Imported into MyDVD by using menu 'edit in MyDVD', created menus, changed background pix by using 'browse for background' (please forgive me if my menu names are not accurate, but should be close). Changed background music using 'edit background audio' using an mp3 file w/o the need for editing. Main menu is using an avi for background pix w/its own sound.

3. Rename all my buttons and menus.

4 Created new menu button on the main menu, pointing to all movies in project' then linking back to the main menu.

5. Attempted to change the thumbnail on the chapters by using 'select thumbnail' it goes thru the action of allowing me to play the movie, then clicking ok at the frame I want. Upon exit of that window, the thumbnail does not change, but after restart of app. it does remember where I stopped the movie for each thumbnail.

At this point I installed EMC 10 on my laptop. A Dell Inspiron 1525 with 4 gig mem. running Vista SP2 Home Premium.
Installation failed due to unable to find CPDP.msi. After extreme frustration for not being able to find the file and the persistence of the installation app to try to get installed even after I quit by canceling the install. I decided to remove (just noticed I had) the installed OEM EMC 10 premiere. Then after rebooting proceeded to install EMC 10 by skipping the installation of the cian player (spelling?), in hopes I won't run into the CPDP.msi challenge again. I don't really need that player, not now.
From this point forward I am now using the Dell laptop.

Repeated step 4 in hopes it would allow me to change the thumbnails, but still acted the same way w/same results.

6. At one point shortly after repeating step 4, MyDVD quit and went back to the main screen of EMC 9 losing all the changes I had made for the past 1/2 hour except, it still remembered the frame of each thumbnail, but w/o changing the thumbnail.

7. Attempted to change background pix in one of the submenus w/no results. Went to another menu do the same and was able to, returned to that menu and notice the back ground was clear. Attempted to change pix and it finally did let me do it.

After review of my production, I noticed the background sound of the main menu was repeating the first 5 seconds or so, and the avi was not playing, stayed on the first frame.

Gave up trying to make it right and I created the movie, results?

Main menu has a still pix repeating the first 5 seconds of the background sound of the avi, all the buttons are blank thumbnails. The rest, besides my screw up of repeating a chapter, and forgetting to change background music for one of the submenus, the rest of the menus are and worked as built.

PS: I have successfully created several DVDs in the past, but all been one movie and I created the chapters within the movie, and not so elaborate of animated background, thumbnails, multiple menus, etc...
Soon I hope to be able to play part of the movie within the thumbnail, or at least be able to replace the thumbnail.

Thank you very much for the interest in my 'extreme' frustration. I've always liked Roxio, it's why I've been w/it so long, but it's testing my loyalty right now.
In fact, I was just in it to verify some things in this post, and it just quit on me, again! (On my desktop).

Do you have any suggestions, other then buggy application? Not sure if I want to spend the money for the 2010 if I'll end up w/same results.

I got the DVD out, but not the way I wanted it.
