Has anyone ever gotten this message.  I have Windows XP

error 1706.No valid source could be found for roxio creator 2009. The windows installer cannot continue.

I have Creator 2009 installed on my computer.....have used it already.  Now all of a sudden I get the above error after my computer has been idle a while and it comes back on.  It takes me about 5 times of cancelling whatever it's trying to do.  I think it says something about configuring roxio.  Why all of a sudden does it want to that.  I've let it run through before and it never finishes and then get the error.  Can anyone help?
Thanks

You never came back and said whether or not you did.

I'm sorry...I had to bring my computer back to factory settings.  Everything was running great, so I decided to load Roxio 2009 again.  Even that was running great until just recently after my computer is idle and comes back on I get that message.  I'm not even running Roxio at that time.
Thanks

Are you running a strong registry cleaner?  One of those caused problems in an earlier version but I haven't heard any problems of that type lately.

When you say idle, do you mean Hibernate or Sleep or just let it sit by itself?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

There can be antivirus / spy or malware cleaners that delete suspicious files and registry entries;
more often than not, a few of those products hit false positive and decide in their eternal wisdom to remove registry entries and then affected programs are rendered unusable and/or Windows suggests to reinstall.

Since we do not know what is installed on your system, you will need to dig in or ask someone who can help you find out; then go to the control windows of said AntiVirus / Spy or Malware cleaner program and look through its log files to find out if and when and what it had removed anything.

Hope this helps.

If the Windows Installer jumps in and wants to start installing an already-installed program after the system has been idle for a while, I'd start looking hard at the Windows Installer.

Perhaps installing the latest version of the Windows Installer would straighten it up - it certainly couldn't hurt.

Jurgen, is the installer actually somewhere in that link?  I couldn't find the download, but I only looked for it for a few minutes.

in deed, the article just refers to the Microsoft download center; and try to find something there...  ;-)

OK, Google again:   smile.gif

Installer 4.5  for Windows XP/2003 (ver.5) and Windows Vista/2008 (ver.6.0)

Installer 5.0 is part of the Windows 7 (and Windows 2008 R2) (ver.6.1) and not available as (redistributable) download.

Usually, MSI is part of the Windows Update; but then, you never know what application might install an older Installer program thus overwriting and replacing the newer Microsoft Installer...
