Hi all,

Running Creator Premier
Version: 1.1.010
Build: 110B10A, DLP

Source drive is TSST DVD+RW TS-H653F

Burning a DVD+RW is aok and hte disc is readable/loadable on the source drive

But when moved to the Destination drive/machine. I get a "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows."

The destination drive is  a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A.

To cramp things up more, Before I erased the disc in the TSST and burned it, I'd put it in the dest. drive and there was no issue.  And, those previous contents had been burned a few months
earlier by the same source drive and software.

I used this disc _because_ the NEC could read it (I actually thought it was a CD-R(W)).  I'd tried burning two other DVD+RW to load in the NEC without success earlier, so went digging for a disc that _had_ worked before.  Harumph!

thanks for any help. B

rokosz,

[1] Is it correct that the destination drive is in another machine? What version of Windows is on this other machine?
[2] Is it a data disc, rather than a DVD-Video ?
[3] How did you erase the disc in the TSST ?
[4] How did you write the disc in the TSST? - did you format it and drag the data onto it, or did you use a Creator Classic project?

I need to know these things before I can be sure what's happening.

Thank you Brendon for the questions. The answers would be helpful...
1) yes the dest drive is in another machine -- but I mean, to clarify, that I take the disco out and physically move it to the NEC drive after burning in the "source"Tsst.  The "dest"NEC drive is handled via Windows 2003 Server.

2) yes, disc is strictly data.

3) I believe I selected the contents and deleted.

4) creation was via a data disc project, no formatting, just drag & drop

thanks again,
hth, B

Thanks. These two answers are still giving me a problem.

Would you look at this snip from a Windows Explorer view of 'My Computer'. I have it set to show 'File System', and you can get the same display in XP if you don't already have it by going to My Computer > View > Choose details . . . and checking 'File System'. I can go look in other Operating Systems if you aren't running XP.

exp.jpg

In my two optical drives, the top one has a data DVD and shows CDFS as the file system. The bottom one shows UDF as the file system. What file system does your problem disc show, please?

What I am suspecting is that your disc has been made the UDF file system, which needs a special reader, and that the destination machine doesn't have a properly operating UDF reader so can't read the disc.

Regards,
Brendon

yes, Brendon, you are correct the CD shows UDF.    A later resonse from CDAnteek has a bunch of troubleshooting links i haven't looked to closely at yet.  I'll start with (trying) upg'ding the dest drive to a proper udf firmware.

Is the CDFS/UDF attrib something controllable with in the Roxio 10 software? I'm guessing I should go more granular in there rather than the project route?

thank you very much for your attention and time

Hold the presses!  I realized I wasn't going to be able to upgrade the firmware for the NEC (since I had no net cx drivers, hence no inet). So I went back to Roxio and the data options. a little f1 on "udf" and, though it seems the helpfile is mistaken, I was able to set the file system of the disc wriet to iso-juiliet+UDF (It had been ISO-juliet 106 max char names).  Wal-la! it works.

thank you Brendon and CDAnteek for getting me back on the rails.

Possible solutions:
1. Update your firmware
2. Change Bitset/Book type of the NEC drive to DVD ROM - I hope your drive support Bit sitting though.
My Rig: Dell XPS 420 Desk Top,  Windows 7  Home Premuim SP1, 4Gig RAM, 500Gig HD primary
External HD: 500g Seagate HD  for Document back ups, WD250 Gig  secondary  HD internal  for movie Rips, 1TB Samsung HD103SJ spinpointF3 for music storage

Not needed, Ripperfreak. smile.gif

Rokosz was just using the wrong file system. He's adjusted that now and all's well.
