How do I get a regular dvd-r movie to go in imovie using this app?

Which application? Roxio has dozens; some are for PCs and others for MACs.  You are asking about IMovie which is an Apple application.

BTW, If the movie is DRM protected, then none of the Roxio products will do anything with them.  Any talk about breaking DRM protection is banned.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
