I must alsomention that once or twice I managed to get it right. Then one other time I found an option, somewhere on EMC9 that allowed me to "fill the screen" cropping top and bottom but fill the screen. It seemed to look better. I can't find that either.

Two things have to happen before you load any widescreen clip into VW…
First, set to a Widescreen Project:
Second, set the handling for non-16-9 source (File - Production Settings):
Your Panasonic does not record in true 16:9 but is most likely using Letterbox.
Give that a try and let us know.

That was the thing I had found once but couldn't find again! Thanks, the image is still squished though. The screen is filled by cropping the top and bottom, but side by side the image is still somewhat squished. Is there anything else I can do to get it back out like it looks on the camera?

Maybe a redundant question, but how did you get the camera's video into your computer to start with---Before you used it in Videowave ?

I didn't.
And while I have all of you answering...I don't supposed there is patch software for the EMC9 to work with Windows 7?

NO on Win7!
Reminder: the settings can only be changed BEFORE you add the clip!
If you are in a hurry, you can do it manually... You add a color panel to the Video track then drag your clip onto the Overlay track.
It will have grab handles and you can strech it to fit and get into the correct ratio.

The color panel was ingenious! I was able to stretch the supposed 16:9 to the actual ratio so my horses don't look like umpapa's. Now to see if they will upload to youtube like that!?

I'm afraid that one is only solved by the application of many $$$s.
Creator 2010 is the only Roxio suite which is compatible with Windows 7.
There are a number of little cut-down suitelets which have been modified for Windows 7 and re-released, but IOHO they are not worth the plastic they are written on since they're so deliberately limited in what they can do.

Agreed!
Although there are some 'bargains' out there with a minimum of compromise…
The Current Roxio VHS to DVD package for Win7 ($60) is an excellent bargain and with the capture device, will allow you to connect any source with Analog output to your PC to capture from! Your camcorder???
Similarly there is a Creator 2010 SE version from Sam's Club/WalMart or Costco that are good bargains and contain the regular 2010 plus the capture device.
But beyond that, Brendon is right, the repackaged versions are not worth a passing glance.

Seeing as it has taken me almost 2 years to fully grasp EMC9 (I really havent done too many videos until now) what is comparable in the "new software" arena? The one I have now I got from Costco and I see there are several on E-bay what is the best and what is what I don't want exactly. I really have no designs on becoming a cinematographer I just need to shoot video, trim, have the right aspect ratio :-) and upload to the internet or burn to a disk for mailing. Suggestions?

Are you asking for a recommendation of a competitor's product when Roxio is paying the bill on this one?
I've own/have owned/tried several and this is the one I keep coming back to.
