I need to uninstall Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (v5.35.10) from an XP SP1 machine.
I understand that the uninstall process is:
1. Uninstall EZCD5 from Add/Remove
2. Use Roxizap to remove the leftovers.
Question: Presumably I am only rebooting after using Roxizap.
Also I noted the following article in the Roxio knowledge base entitled Complete Uninstall of Easy CD Creator 5. Is it also advised to follow those instructions and are these instructions for XP also.
http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en
I was going to install Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 on XP SP1. From my readings this version should work ok and not break IE, WMP, other. Anything else I should be weary of.
Lastly, as regards Easy CD & DVD Creator 6, I understand that Roxizap can work on this version (though designed for EZCD 4 & 5) but does anyone have manual uninstall proceedure for this or is the info from the Roxio knowledge base good .
http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en
Apologies for asking these questions.
Any info much appreciated.
Cheers
P.S Safety precautions 1. I will be taking a full image of the XP partition prior to any changes 2. I will use Regshot to monitor registry changes

By way of some further feeback, I have just done a dress rehersal install / uninstall of EZCD 5 in an XP Virtual Machine and have a couple of added questions.
For clarity I uninstalled via add/remove and then ran Roxizap prior to reboot.
1. When I installed EZCD 5 there was an entry in Add/Remove ISScript which appeared. This was not removed. In conjuction with this, the following 2 folders still exist
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\IScript
Question: Should I uninstall ISScript from Add/Remove
The Roxio knowledge base articles suggests renaming these folders to Engine.ROX and Iscript.ROX and does not mention ISScript in add/remove.
2. C:\Documents and Settings\<useraccountname>\Application Data\Roxio\CDDB this folder is still their and what I gather is the underlying registry key
HKLM>SOFTWARE>CDDB
Question: Should I delete the CDDB folder and registry key.
Would much appreciate some feedback
Cheers

That's all you should need to do. Roxizap was made to remove the odd pieces which interfered with the installation of version 6.
Good luck with version 6. It's not considered one of the best products in the stable.

After some battling got EZCD6 succesfully installed. Although I am sure that this topic may be of interest only to a limited number of users, I thought that I would post my results.
EZCD6 initial install went fine but at reboot following problems:
1. Desktop did not complete, just background showing with Roxio box asking for MSI installer to complete installation.
The install had removed the optical drive as it had deleted registry content from the Upper & Lower Filters. So no way to proceed.
2. The cdr4_xp.sys file which EZCD6 installed was creating a BSOD reboot loop.
Searched extensively and found reference to user (on this forum) who had renamed cdr4_xp.sys (to cdr4_xp.old) rebooted his system and patched / updated EZCD6 with latest version.
I tried this & with the updatecdr4 file but neither worked for me.
This is my solution and it worked first time no issues at all
Firstly let me say that I did go for a full dress rehersall of installing EZCD5 --> Uninstalling EZCD5 -->Installing EZCD6 on a Virtual Machine and this all went very well. I noted that the cdr4_xp.sys & cdralw2k.sys from my Virtual Machine install were from Sonic Solutions v8.0.0.212 Mar2007.
So here goes
1. PRIOR TO INSTALL
1. Copy Sonic Solutions files cdr4_xp.sys & cdralw2k.sys and place in Windows\System32\Drivers folder.
2. Created Upper / Lower Filters registry keys exactely as they were before ie with EZCD5 installed.
Mine were: LowerFilters PxHelp20 Cdr4_xp & UpperFilters cdralw2k GEARAspiWDM (PxHelp20 is to do with Winamp & GEARAspiWDM is Itunes)
3. Install creator 6 - DO NOT REBOOT
4. Install Updates in following order - DO NOT REBOOT
Installed the following in this order
1. Engine -->6.2.0.134
2. Creator -->6.2.0.111
3. Audio -->1.1.0.277
4. du20041204 --> Drive Update
5. Check Upper/Lower Filter in registry to make sure nothing changed. Also check the cdrxx.sys files in the System32\Drivers folder to check nothing changed.
Now reboot and all should be ok with nothing broken.
During the install I only checked
a. Creator Classic
b. Audio Central.
The rest of the install seemed like bloatware and since I have other progs that can do the same I preferred to leave those out.
Hope this helps someone.
Good Luck
