I'm using EMC7. Or trying to. Just started having a problem when error message "Drag to Disk could not start components missing" I've removed and reloaded several times with the original disks but still will not open. Any help would be appreciated.

Bob

Never mind. it was the px engine thingy. Seems to be ok now.

The last post on this topic was back in May, so you're "Necroposting" Finkey.

The original poster said "Never mind. it was the px engine thingy. Seems to be ok now." His problem is fixed, so there is no need for the laborious and dangerous registry editing.

The last time you posted, you were using Creator Classic, in EMC 10.  If the data that you are backing up, is important, you will dump the Drag to Disc, and use Creator Classic, in your EMC 7.

Archiving your data, using Drag to Disc, aka packet writing software, is risky at best.  Type in "Drag to Disc" in the Search box, and do some reading.

I LOVE my d2d and use it for backing up ALL my important files.  Roxio diluted it in Roxio 9 and eliminated it in 10.  I called roxio and got my money back and had them cancell the license for 10 cuz they took it out.  I'm currently using Roxio EMC 7 BECAUSE it has D2D.  The D2D menu has "launch scandisc" which is sometimes able to "FIX" broken CD/DVD's and "Choose Recorder" which was eliminated from EMC 9.  (I know cuz I bought that TOO).  My version however came with my burner and is tha BASIC edition.  I'm trying to find out if I can use the update on my BASIC edition or if I have to buy the boxed version to use it.  I've already found the boxed version on the internet but am too cheep to buy it if I don't have to. biggrin.gif

Wikdman:

You are talking about ancient history so not many people can give you a definitive answer.  We are not Roxio so we don't have that information available.

If you found an updated version on the web (real cheap) then contact the seller for that information or see if the seller will take the product back if it does not have the features you wanted.

Please post a link to that seller; it would be interesting to see what version he is actually selling.

BTW, you can Google for packet writing software and you will find lots.  If you are looking for it to get a program that will "fix" damaged discs, you can Google for that also.  If you have some discs that were made with D2D, look at ISO buster to see if it will get back some of those files.

BTW, don't hijack someone else thread and stick to one thread.  You have at least two going now.

Steps to Fix the "Drag to Disk could not start components missing" in Windows XP.  (This error message appeared after I uninstalled an HP All-In-One Printer Program):

Uninstall Easy Media Creator.
Go to Program Files and delete the still existing Roxio folder.
Go to Start, Run, and type in regedit.
At top Menu, choose Edit, Find...
Enter Roxio.
Delete each highlighted entry with Roxio, by using Find Next.
Once the registry is completely cleaned of Roxio entries, restart computer.
Install Easy Media Creator.  (I made sure to use the original install disc, not a burned image disc)
The program will run as normal.
