First of all, can I transfer vhs taps to dvd using EMC 8?
If so, how do I hook my vhs recorder to my computer?
The recorder has three rca connectors on the back, audio R, L, and video. there is a card in the computer that has the same type of connections but I think this is a TV tuner card. There is a fire wire connector on the front which I use when working with my DV video camera. Do I have a chance or do I buy a DVD/VHS combo recorder?
Thanks, Jim B.

Is your TV tuner card listed here? If so, you have the Analog to Digital converter that you need to convert the analog signal from the VHS player to an input to your computer.
If your camcorder has the ability to do a pass through, you would be able to connect your VHS player to the camcorder and then use the Firewire. Read your owners manual. The camcorder works as the A/D converter.
There is an application to capture video but I don't remember what it is called. Just try seeing if one of those work. If not, there are A/D device that would be much cheaper than buying the DVD/VHS combo.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thanks for the hint. My camcorder has the A/D conversion and pass through ability. I'll mess with that tomorrow and let you know how things go.

The camcorder works as a D/V converter. Now, is there a simpler A/D converter out there? Using the camcorder is inconvenient and I don't like putting the wear and tear on it

Yes, there are several (examples) but other than the ones I linked to above, there would be no way of telling if they would work. Some of the older Pinnacle devices (DVC 90, 100) worked but that is no current guarantee.
Roxio also had a USB device but I can't find it now. The one listed is for Creator 2010 only.
Perhaps a kind soul who is using EMC 8 would post what they are using.

Yes, there are several examples...
Thanks for the reply!
I bought the Pinnacle dazzle DVDRecorder plus package and the hardware works real well with Roxio MYdvd. The package came with some software 2 of which I installed, Studio 12.1 and direct to DVD record. Direct to DVD record works like Roxio plug and burn except it doesn't make coasters. On the other hand, I cant get studio 12 to run. I'm on the pinnacle forum trying to find out why.
