Is there a way to capture a VHS tape and save the video directly to an ISO image rather than an AVI or MPEG? This would eliminate the need to convert those latter two types to ISO. The only way I've found to reliably burn a disk is to use MYdvd and burn an ISO image to the disk. Everything else seems to make coasters for me. Is there a quicker way to convert an AVI or MPEG file to an ISO image than using Mydvd to do this?

Nope. You will have to go through the motions of rendering/authoring the DVD before you can burn and/or save to .ISO/Video_TS folder

There is a 'feature' called Plug & Burn that will capture and make a compliant DVD Movie on disc as you go…

You could copy the disc as often as you like from there.

Only drawback is that P&B is fraught with dangers, often fails!    Almost no one uses it, for just those reasons…

So in the end, the best way to go is as firenhancer suggests.
