I'm not going to waste a lot of time describing this problem because it is too far-reaching and probably not worth going through what I need to fix it.
Basically, after a few years of working fine through several generations of Windows Media Players and other software updates, several functions within EMC7 stopped working. For example, I can no longer burn CDs unless I uninstall Windows Media, restart my computer, and yell "Bilittily blattaly doo doo" off the George Washington Bridge four times.
My computer no longer even recognizes either of my CD/DVD drives as long as EMC7 is installed. The minute I uninstall it, both drives are back.
I'm not looking for a fix, at this point, as I have already replaced EMC7 (which I used extensively while it worked) with several other programs. But is this something software designers consider acceptable?

If you updated IE or if you updated WMP, then the program was broken. Sorry. You can go back to the previous versions and the program should work again. Apparently there was no value to go back and fix a obsolete program to be compatable with earlier versions - and I'm talking about Microsoft
BTW, V7 is 6 versions behind but it was one of the best. V8 was terrible!

If you have Windows XP, with IE 6 and WMP 9, or below, EMC 7/7.5 will work.
If you have Windows XP, with IE 7 or 8, or if you have WMP 10, or above, YOU broke EMC 7/7.5, by allowing the new IE and WMP to install on your computer.
If you installed Vista, you killed your EMC 7/7.5.
If you installed Windows 7, you killed your EMC 7/7.5.
If you don't have the need to do widescreen, or HD video productions, EMC 7/EMC 7.5 are far and away, the best versions of Roxio software, that you can use.
Life is good!

I've done all the rollbacks recommended here and on other groups in the past. They got EMC7 to work again, but they shut down both my CD drives and caused other problems, as well. Eventually, I just cursed the hell out of Roxio and decided it was time to move on.
For music CD burning, I use iTunes. For data burning, I downloaded a lousy free program called InfraRecorder. For photo editing, I now use a combination of Microsoft Digital Image and GIMP Image Manipulation, both freebies. I suppose the next time I need to edit video, I will have to rely on Microsoft Movie Maker.
Roxio...ya broke my heart.
