Hello,
I just bought Toast Pro 10 last week. I've been burning PAL encoding AVI files into a DVD-Video project. Up till now, everyone that I have done asks me if I want to re-encode it to NTSC and then enters an encoding phase which lasts a few hours. This last bunch of 4 PAL AVI files I am working on, Toasts asks me if I want to reencode to NTSC to which I respond to do so, but instead of entering the encoding phase, it enters this multiplexing phase which lasts only a few minutes before writing it to disk. When I put this DVD in my DVD players it says that it can't play it. I can't figure out why this particular bunch of AVI files is different than all the others. The only difference I have is that I am using DVD -R disks from Staples instead of Sony. I wouldn't think that would cause this but I haven't tried this on Sony Disk yet. I did try just burning this as a Disk Image but the same results. If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In Toast preferences you choose whether you want your video DVDs to be in PAL or NTSC format. If the source video is in the opposite format as the one you selected in preferences then Toast asks for instructions about what kind of video you really want to make. If you Google for PAL or NTSC specs you'll see how the resolution and frame rate is different between the two formats. NTSC DVD players typically cannot play PAL discs but most PAL players can play NTSC discs.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
