1st Question:
How do you set edit points? I am sure this is the button in the middle. Once the edit point is set do you drag this point to the next edit point thus cutting out this portion of video.
2nd Question:
Once the two edit points have been set and you have highlighted the area in yellow do you press the FINE button and the save this EDITED [REMOVED SECTION OF VIDEO IE. COMMERCIALS}.
3rd Question:
Do you repeat this process and then save the final edit as DISC IMAGE?
Final Question/Conclusion:
Do you have to continue to use the FINE Button as a final edit along a series of four or five edits in order to reach the FINAL EDITED VIDEO DISC IMAGE?
Please list detailed procedures from Point #1 to Point #3

1st Question:

Good questions. Choose "Fine" to see more frames at which edits can be made. Go to a frame where you want to start an edit and click the button in the middle. It is actually two triangles. Drag the right half forward or the left half back to select frames you want excluded. The selected area is highlighted in yellow. Go to the next point where you want to start an edit and repeat. Do this as many times as you want. At the end choose Save and close the Toast Video Player.
Once the two edit points have been set and you have highlighted the area in yellow do you press the FINE button and the save this EDITED [REMOVED SECTION OF VIDEO IE. COMMERCIALS}.
The Fine button is something to press at the start and just leave it that way. The reason not to click Fine is if you don't need the edits to be as precisely marked and you want to scroll through the video faster.
Do you repeat this process and then save the final edit as DISC IMAGE?
You do all your edits at one time. When they are all marked choose Save and return to Toast. Toast now will show that the length in time for your video is less than it was before. You can either choose to Save as Disc Image or proceed with burning your disc. The editor does not do anything to the source video. It just tells Toast what portions to exclude when Toast is authoring your DVD or converting your video to another format.
Do you have to continue to use the FINE Button as a final edit along a series of four or five edits in order to reach the FINAL EDITED VIDEO DISC IMAGE?
I answered this above. You are misinterpreting what the Fine button does. It merely enables editing at finer points along the video.
Done in the reply to question 1.

All of your detailed steps worked. I was able to cut the correct amount of video
but the audio does not match the new video cut. I edited a 3 1/2 hour program to about 45 minutes of
trimmed video but the audio from the beginning of the show plays over the edited piece.
Somehow Toast is not cutting out the matching audio and video but leaves the audio track intact.

I'll check to see if this happens on my Mac as well. What is the source for the video you are editing? How does Toast describe its specs? I presume you are using Toast 9.0.7. Which version OSX and is it an intel or G5 Mac?

Toast is only cutting the video and leaving all the remaining Audio intact no cuts whatsoever.
Could it be something in Toast Preferences that can remedy the situation? I know I am reaching but I am frustrated beyond belief.

Download and install Toast 9.0.7. One of the changes back with 9.0.4 is "Resolves a number of MPEG video related audio/video sync issues." That may be what you're describing.
