MacBook Pro 10.5.8 (4 GB RAM, 300 GB free on HD)
Toast Titanium Pro (recently updated to 10.0.6)

I get this error message: sense code = 0x73, 0x03  many many many times!!!
Iīve tried:
- Update Toast to last version
- Update OSX
- Clean the superdrive with a professional cleaner
- Throw all preferences, and re install Toast from the beginning
- Check Buffer underrun
- Toast  x2, x4, best, etc..
- Different CD brands (including Verbatim, Phillips, Sony, etc...)

Everything FAILED

But....I tried one more thing: -R instead of +R, and now everything is OK
No matter what brand I use...including very cheap brands...
Could anyone tell me what is happening??
Moreover...is there a way to perform a media drive update?
I couldnīt find a firmware update to Matshita DVD-R UJ-868 and I donīt know how to do it

Many thanks in advance for any help or information!!

Regards

1. Try saving as a disc image and then try burning on the media experiencing sense code errors.
2. Test with a different burner to narrow down any hardware issues.

I Googled your burner and found this  http://db.tidbits.com/article/10562?print_version=1

Try doing a search and see what else you can find.

I have the same problem and using -R did not help. Is it a hardware or software problem?

Which Mac and model of optical drive are you using? Could yours be the drive discussed in this topic

I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
