Have read the thread ....
http://forums.suppor...?showtopic=6184
..... but didn't really understand all of it. Is there a simple method to join 2 avi files together to make one whole movie to burn to DVD? I have EMC 8.0.
Thanks.

No editing - Using all default menus, text and backgrounds

Fastest, easiest way :
Open MyDVD
Click on ADD VIDEO/IMAGE
In the media selector, hold down the control key while selecting the two files.
Click ADD
Click Burn
Done

Now if you want to do some editing, then be prepared for it to take some time. Also in MyDVD you can customize the menu, etc.

Thanks Gary,
But If I just add the 2 avi files as you say how will I know that the first file is the beginning of the video and the second file is the ending part? Will I have to wait until the encoding starts to see???

Click on Preview???

You really need to spend a little quality time with the Help files. Not all questions will be answered there, but the basics of using the program and its' features are in there.

I followed the above instructions but it said that there was insufficient space on the DVD even when using "fit to disc". Possibly it's me but will have to keep trying I guess. Also how do you stop the menu screen appearing at the start as I want the film start itself?

In response to the earlier post I have read the help files until I cannot read any more, primarily because I cannot find the correct entry to cover all this. EMC is such a comprehensive and sometimes complicated program that a little help now and then is needed for the inexperienced user. After all, I thought this was what forums were for anyway!!

Thanks anyway

Have you tried looking that the FILE / NEW menu? Open MyDVD
File / New DVD - no menu

That creates disc with no menu.

How long is th video? You can only get one hour of video at BEST quality. Anything longer and the video must be compressed so the quality can suffer. MyDVD has a difficult time putting any more than 2 hours on a disc.

Thanks for the info and "hand holding" - it really is appreciated. But are you suggesting using third party software to compress?

No, if you are trying to get more than two hours on a single 4.7 gig DVD, there is a work around. Set the MyDVD project to dual layer. Burn to an ISO file and then let Disc Copier transcode it to single layer disc. But you have to be aware that the quality will not be even close to the original quality even though Disc Copier does a good job of transcoding.

I have tried to find a reference to dual layer copying in "my project" but cannot find anything. Please advise where to look. The quality isn't an issue as they are instructional video's only.
Thanks

Run MyDVD
In the lower left corner is the Roxio logo. Beside that is DISC TYPE. Select 8.5 GB there.
