You don't give very much info at all in order to try and help you but as you mention resolution, what is your resolution set as? Do you get any error messages? Does it look like Aero turns off? Is this the Home screen that won't work or have you tried other applications and the same thing happens?
Please answer these questions and give more detail about what you are doing.
