Depends; that is a pretty open question.  EMC 8 handles transitions differently that does V7/7.5 so if you have transitions in those projects, chances are they it won't.  the good news is that you can have both V7/7.5 and V8 on your computer at the same time.  Most people recommend that you delete V7/7.5, install V8 and then reinstall V7/7.5.  V8 also requires more from your computer especially the video card.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Correct Steve--I tried bringing up a couple of Videowave 7.5 productions in my EMC 8 deluxe and they wouldn't come up. But after you suggested that it was probably the transitions that caused it I did have all of the 7.5 productions with transitions, so I guess thats the problem. I haven't tried any tests with ones that do not have transitions yet, however.

I actually have tested it out, I deleted transitions and any overlays and effects and I was able to switch them.  :)

There should be no problem bringing in EMC 7/7.5  productions if they have no transitions/effects etc. with EMC 8 even if you don't still have EMC 7/7.5 installed. If you have EMC 7/7.5 and EMC 8 installed you should be able to bring in most EMC 7/7.5 productions. The reason EMC 7/7.5 productions don't work in EMC 8 without EMC 7/7.5 installed is that the program is looking for the transition/effects etc referenced in the dmsm project file and of course the program cannot find them.

IF is the operative word, and I don't believe that that is what most users of past versions of Roxio want to see.

I agree Bruce, I don't like the idea that EMC 7/7.5 projects are not useable without EMC 7/7.5 also installed on the system

I have found other programs where the new version was NOT backward compatible with the previous version and that is frustrating to say the least. Especially when one has done a lot of work using the original and then can't use to new version to bring up the older programs. Unless of course, like it is suggested, the other program is also installed on the computer.
