when I install roxio easy media creator 8 suite I lose the ability to use my cd and dvd drives. The system still recognizes them but does not recognize any cd or dvd I put in them. If I try to manually catalog a cd or dvd the system just runs forever and if I try to cancel the operation the system crashes. It also will not let flash drives work properly.
The only solution I have found is to do a total system restore. I am unable to go back to a system restore point a day or two before.
Is there anyway to contact a real human being at Roxio or should I just reconcile myself to having been ripped for $80?

Probably just XP acting up… Pretty common when adding/removing burning software.
You can try going into Device Manager and deleting the drives. Reboot and they will be redetected.
If that doesn't bring them back, you are going to have to do the Upper/Lower Filters fix. Try the easy way first and let us know if more is needed.

hi there james,
you mentioned about doing the Upper/lower filters fix. Do explain further. What does it do exactly.
I've been getting this 'no recorder' message recently and as advised by most of the people here, i've deleted the driver and restart. Unfortunately, my DVD writer (liteon -SOHW-812S) turned into a DVD ROM instead.
Have any ideas on how to deal with this?
