My computer resets when trying to record from tape using a line-in jack on the rear of the PC (ANY program that has this function available). It is a built-in sound card on a Pentium D system with 1GB DDR SDRAM, 160 GB HDD (partitioned into two drives, I use the second partition to record to), Windows XP Pro SP2. I do not have an open PCI slot for sound card installation (one is used for 56K modem, the other for 802.11g wireless card). Any suggestion to remedy to problem. I used Audacity on a system with 320MG SDRAM, 30GB HDD, Creative SoundBlaster PCI128 sound card and Windows XP Home SP1 without difficulty. Does anyone know of possible conflict with ANY version of Windows SP2? Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We have a lot of information about your computer, but not what we need. What type/brand/model of computer is it? If you built it, what motherboard? What chipset does it use for the audio?

My first suggestion would be to check for new drivers for the audio section, either from the PC manufacturer's web-site, or the motherboard web-site.

You say it happens with "ANY program that has this function available". So, what are some of those that you have tried? Also, when does it happen, when you first start the program? When you first click the "record" button? After it's been recording for 33.4 seconds? Randomly at some point after starting to record?

Let us know!

It is a local custom-built machine with an Intel D945GTP motherboard. SigmaTel provides the audio chip, I believe (found by look in Device Manager). It happens the instant I press the "record" button. I have tried Audacity, CDWave (mentioned in an aticle in this thread) and Roxio's LP and Tape Assisant as well as their "RecordItNow Audio" and "Easy Audio Capture" components of EMC * Suite. What I am doing incorrectly or is it SP2 or a commenication problem with my audio provder's chipset?

Onboard audio can present problems with certain functions of EMC. Have you checked for updated drivers for the audio?
