I have finally been able to put my completed movie to an .iso file (not without continued problems). Now when I try to burn the .iso file to a disk Roxio 8 tells me "Plesae insert a blank or rewritable disc into the TDK DVDRW (D:) drive Supported media: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW. That pretty much covers all recordable media most people use daily. When I put in a Fuji Film DVD-R disk rated from 1x-16x or a Memorex DVD+R rated at 8x or a Memorex DVD-R rated at 16x, Roxio goes on to tell me "This disk is not supported by your drive. Try using a different disc format or a disc with the same format but a different speed rating."

Its kidding, right? Surely I am being punked!!!

I made sure all of my drivers, firmware, etc are all up to date. I previusly owned version 7 and was able to record using the same drives and media (I used the same package of disk on version 7 I am using now for version 8).

I sometimes get messages when using an ISO larger than 4.3 gb and it wants a DL disc. I get by this by selecting a different speed than reselecting the original speed again. This might be something to do with my Plextor but try changing speeds and see if that works.

Sorry..I did try the suggestion above. I actually manualy chose each speed on both of my TDK DVD dual format burners.

When I insert a -R disk it is recognized in DVD Creater. In the lower left hand side where it shows how much disk space is left It will show me DVD-R disk and whatever amount of space is left on the disk if I were to put the project on thier. When I click Burn it goes through the motions, and within 5-10 seconds it comes back and tells me invalid format. If the format was invalid wouldn't it not be regonized prior to me clicking "burn" and show I did not have any disk space available on my specified disk?

Have you tried using the 'Burn Image to Disc' function from the Home menu (under Copy) to see if that works any better? It uses RecordNow to do this. I'm curious as to what happens with that program.

Can you burn other data to discs using other formats and applications? Maybe your drive isnt functioning properly. If you can then nevermind, but I say to start basic.

I have to use "Burn Image to Disk" in order to get a DVD. I also tried to make a copy of the DVD and go from a DVD+R to a DVD-R..no go.

I currently do not have any other programs for recording DVD's. Maybe purchasing something new in the near future.

At least you can get one of the programs to work. Still sounds like a firmware issue to me.

Well I actually meant to try one of the other applications that comes in Easy Media Creator. Can you burn say an audio CD? And by the way, I agree, I think it is firmware related.

I probably shouldn't stick my 2 cents in here, but the poster did say.....

" I made sure all of my drivers, firmware, etc are all up to date. I previusly owned version 7 and was able to record using the same drives and media (I used the same package of disk on version 7 I am using now for version 8)."

Same drive, same firmware, same DVDs that were used in version 7 no longer work in version 8.

Inquiring minds want to know......Does version 8 have different firmware requirements? :)

I know he said his firmware is updated and that's why I said 'still sounds like' because to me it mimics so many problems that those in v7.5 had that were fixed bya firmware update. Even a few who argued it was not firmware came back to say a later version fixed the problem. Since EMC is firmware dependant, I think it could be the problem but wouldn't bet too much of my unearned money just yet. I don't think the exact model was mentioned but as it's a dual burner, it's relatively new so you would think it would be ok but you never know. I'm not even sure who makes TDK's drives.

Yeah, I had forgotten he posted that. I suspect the drive isnt working properly in general (firmware issuse and hardware issues often look very similar). Thats why I also wanted to know if it can burn something completely different. I dont suppose there is any way you can test with another drive?

I'm not that familiar with burning ISO files in EMC8, but in EMC 7.5 when you go to burn a disk or "Copy Disk" and want to burn an ISO file rather than to a disk in your DVD drive, there is a little text on the left side that says you should be using the same kind of media.

I say this as I remember you said you tried to burn an ISO from a DVD+R to a DVD -R disk. It' possible that's why that didn't work.

I copied the same iso file to both plus R and minus R so that should not be the problem. I don't have any experience in copying a plus R disc to a minus R disc or vice versa.
