Why are the chapter points going off their mark every time I try to do a save in a MyDVD project?

I started this project from a .avi movie that I am converting to a DVD (if I can get the Edit Chapters working right) movie with my own chapter marks or points.

(i.e. Let's say I had chapter 4 marked @ 15:34:19, and then clicked on the "OK" button and saved the project. Actually it doesn't matter if I saved the project or not, when I click on the "Edit Chapters" button again, chapter 4 shows being marked @ 17:01:23...Bummer.) :)

My first two marks are fine but all of the rest of the chapters go off mark after I click on the "OK" button to save my project.

Granted, I am just at the beginning of this project ( 5-6  chapter points) but this should not be happening.

Can anyone give me an idea as to how I could correct this issue?

I am using my laptop to do this project but I would not think that would be the problem.

In case you are wondering; my laptop is an HP pavilion ze4125 with 1330 MHZ processor, 768MB RAM and plenty of storage space.

All advice and help are welcomed.

Vic

A few other people have posted a similiar problem.  Because of the way MPEG is compressed with interdependant frames, chapter marks may shift to the nearest "I" frame. Usually that's within a few frames. Personally, I haven't seen the situation you describe and haven't seen any suggestions to remedy it.

Are MPEG files the same as AVI files?

Is there a way to find out where the "I" frames are in this movie?

Thanks again for the info.

No, MPEGs use totally different compression techniques.  There is no real way to deteremine where an 'I' frame is or will be. In any case, chapter marks should NOT be off more than one second from where you mark it.
