I'm curently running EMC 7 BASIC on my Windows XP Professional SP3 computer with IE7 and it works just fine.  I would like something a little better BUT now without 7's D2D.  Is there a difference between OEM BASIC and the boxed version I would have bought at Best Buy or where ever???????

EMC 7 hasn't been on sale for over 5 years now.

If you hunt round eBay or similar you may get a copy of EMC 7.5 cheaply (that has a lot more going for it then any OEM version)

However it is a known fact that IE7 does cause problems with the older suites so for full functionality I'd recommend a roll-back to IE6 and replace IE7 with Firefox

The EMC 7 is working just fine with IE7.  From what I'v read HERE and other reviews IE7 screws it up.  Some people seem to hate both 7 and 7.5 but more seem to dislike the latter.  Do you know for sure that that the D2D is the same with the same menus in both 7 and 7.5?  I really need to know if 7 BASIC that came with my burner is the same as the boxed version you can buy at the store.  Is the store version a FULL version while BASIC is an abreviated version with fewer features?  There is an upgrade for the "BOXED" version of EMC 7.  The upgrade page even differentiates between the downloaded 7 from the roxio website and the store boxed version.  I would like to install the upgrade but can I use it on the BASIC, came with the burned edition. Yes D2D in EMC v7 and EMC v7.5 are the same.

IE7 (and WMP 10 & 11) did not effect all apps in EMC v7/7.5, only some like DVD Builder for example. So if you've not experienced any issues, then you are probably not using any of the affected apps.

The BASIC v7 you got with your burner is NOT the same as a Retail version (boxed or download purchase direct from Roxio) in that it only includes some of the applications included in the full Retail suite. You only got the ones your burner manufacturer wanted included in their Basic OEM version.

What you are calling "upgrades" on Roxio's site are actually "updates". Big difference. As stated on that update page, they are only for retail versions of the software (software that was purchased), so NO you cannot install those updates to upgrade your OEM basic version to a full retail version. You wold have to buy a retail version of EMC 7 or 7.5.

BTW, try to stick to one post on the subject. Having multiple ones can cause confusion.

Thanks tremendously for your input.  You answered my qiestions.  I found a copy of 7 for $19.XX on ebay and will purchase that and do the UPDATE.  I understand there is a BIG difference between update and upgrade.  I just said it wrong.  Is 7.5 that much better than 7?  Sorry about starting multiple posts.  I'm new to ANY fourms and need a little patience.  My OTHER question I thought concerned weather I could mix versions of EMC.  I like the D2D in 7 but D2D in EMC 9 (NOT 2009) really sucks.  There is a Scandisk and a way to change drives (Choose Drives) in 7 but is missing in 9.  I HAVE 9 but uninstalled it for that reason.  (I have 2 CD/DVD drives and 9 wouldn't let me switch from one to the other).  I would like to use 9 but keep thte D2D from 7.  Is that possible?  Thanks again for your help.

Wildman,

I haven't seen Scandisc in version 9 D2D, but have you tried the menu item "Choose Recorder, Alt-C" to switch drives ??

menu.jpg

If you hit the menu button at the top right corner of the D2D icon you get the menu shown, and on passing the mouse pointer over that item you get your drives displayed to choose from.

In my example, drive Y: is chosen, but I can choose Z:, and use the menu to enable that drive for Drag-to-Disc, too.

I would like to send you a screenshot of mine but I can't figure out how to attach it to this post.  When I press "Insert Image" it wants me to type a URL.  What is THAT all about?  The screenshot I made is in my computer not on a website.  Is the D2D you're showing me from EMC 7?  Mine is different.  Insead of Disable Drag-to-Disc For This Drive, I have Launch Scandisc.  Maybe I'm not being clear.  I LIKE EMC 7's D2D and want to keep it, BUT, I wanted to UPGRADE to EMC 9 cuz it seems to have more features.  I bought and and installed Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 which still has D2D because its supposed to have more features.  When I installed it, I found out the D2D that comes with that version seems to be a stripped down model.  I didn't have the afore mentioned menu items:    Choose Recorder and Launch Scandisc.   So I CLEAN UNINSTALLED EMC 9 and am now using EMC 7 cuz I like its D2D better.  Now I'm seeing in these forums certain features in 7 won't work with IE7 which I use nor with Vista 7 which someday I'll HAVE to upgrade to cuz Microsoft will discontinue support for XP.  My BIG question is:  Can I install Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 and keep using or just install D2D from EMC 7 and remove the D2D from (or not install it) from EMC 9???????????      blink.gif

I thought that was answered in one of your other threads.  That is why it is a good idea to have only one open at a time.

Do you see D2D listed separately in Windows Add or Remove Programs?  If you do, you can remove it.  I believe at that time, you also had an options to install certain applications and not others.  It is time to try something, anything.  You have do do some work yourself.

Make a restore point of your hard drive; if you screw up, you can do a restore.  Don't play with the registry unless you are given specific instructions.

If you can use D2D from EMC 7, why are you interested in buying a four or five year old program (EMC 9)

I'm NOT interested in buying an already 4 or 5 year old program.  I already HAVE it:  EMC 9.  I bought 10 and demanded my money back from Roxio cuz they took D2D out.  Then I bought 9 off of ebay because Roxio deleted D2D from all future virsions.  I LIKE PACKET WRIGHTING AND I DON'T CARE IF NO ONE ELSE DOES!!!!  I haven't had any trouble with it.  Its MUCH easier to add files continuously to a disc instead of all the other ways everyone and every other program does.  When you are finally finished with a disc, you just close it out and make it so you can use the CD/DVD on other computers.  OR just leave it as it is and no one can read it unless they have D2D.  I would have been very happy with EMC 9 if it had the same D2D with the same menu options as the D2D on EMC 7.

Probably one reason it was dropped is that Vista and Windows 7 have packet writing software, aka drag to disc, built in (and the burning engine for that is supplied by Sonic/Roxio) - but who really knows

Wildman,

For goodness' sake, please stop reacting for a moment and READ the answers you've been given.

Drag-to-Disc version 9 does have the ability to select your recorder. See the picture of version 9 menus in post #6 above.

Since you have both versions and the ability to do it, have you tried Sknis' suggestions in post #8 on how to mix your versions??
We can only lead you so far - after that you have to take a step for yourself.

This is getting as bad as some of the newsgroups I've seen on usenet where everyone flames and balls out people for minor percieved infractions of "RULES" or someone feels as they were insulted.   I don't really want to argue with ANYONE!  I really appreciate all the help anyone wants to give me.  But you just said, " Drag-to-Disc version 9 does have the ability to select your recorder. See the picture of version 9 menus in post #6 above."  By looking at the picture I believe it came from YOU.  Now if you read your own #6 post it says, "I haven't seen Scandisc in version 9 D2D, but have you tried the menu item "Choose Recorder."  That means to ME that that ISN'T the menu from EMC 9.  If you hadn't seen it, how could you attach a copy of it.  In post#6 you therefore, TO ME, it implies it is NOT EMC 9's D2D.  NOW you say it is indeed a copy of EMC 9's D2D.  Which is it?  That's why I asked again.  I'm not stupid.  MY BOXED COPY OF ROXIE EASY MEDIA CREATOR 9 SUITE D2D DOES NOT HAVE AN OPTION TO CHANGE DRIVES!  If you will tell me how to attach a screenshot to these posts I will send one to this fourm to prove it when I install EMC 9.  When I press attach picture all I get is a box with, "please enter the url for this image."  I don't have any URL all I have is a computer with files I can attach NOT URL'S.  I don't have a website to go to to get a picture and attach it.  I wish someone would tell me how to attach screenshot.  I asked in my last post but all I got was geting balled out again.  In the mean time, thankyou all for trying to be so helpful.  It really is appreciated.

There are a few online storage sites you can use - upload the screen dump there and then linmk in the url

Google and you'll find quie a few of them - one example is

http://www.freevirtualservers.com/online-storage-drive/

and no-one is flaming - you CAN select drives from EMC9 (that's always been an option) and it's been there ever since I can recall (and I've been using these programs since the days of Easy CD 3)

There is an option to copy from one optical drive to another - so it HAS to be there
