I have a Canon HD camera. If I record in HD, cine mode and at 24fps, what shoudl i convert to? my only choices are 25, 29.97 and 30? Should i record in 60i, or 30p instead?
How do i get full benefit to the 24 frame rate in roxio. And what happens if I do record in one frame rate and convert to another?
thank you in advance.

You have several choices. The first question is what are you going to do with the video. Are you going to edit it? What type of discs are you going to make from the video --blu-ray, AVCHD or standard definition disc.
Edit video advanced has several choices for 24 fps; Create DVD has same as original.
As for what you want to record as; it is up to you and your computer. Read about your camcorder to see what different situations call for. Which Canon camcorder do you have.
From reviews" You can improve low-light performance even more by switching into 24P mode. Film students and backyard Spielbergs covet this "cine-look" mode because, at 24 frames per second, it emulates the stuttering motion of 35mm film. As they say, though, nothing looks like film except film." By correlation, 60 fps is smoother for fast action. Here is some good information.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I have the vixia hf10 as usual, the manual has very littel info about the frame rate except only that it offers it. Not even sure what it is supposed to do. I will play around with it though.
I already recorded in 24p, and converted a file with drop and convert. that only give 25, 29.97 and 30 as choices. I picked 29.97 i believe and the frame rate of the converted file seems ot be a bit accelerated? i will check out your link.

Why Copy and Convert? Are you just going to burn a disc that will not play on a DVD player?
You didn't answer many of my questions.
1) Are you going to edit the video? If so use Edit Video-Advanced.
2) What type of disc will you want to end up with. Blu-ray, AVCHD or standard definition. Use Create DVD for that step. If you want to make a blu-ray or AVCHD disc without editing the video file, just add that "movie" to the menu or select "no menu" Burn as "same as original"
It seems like you may need to spend a little time learning this software and how to do what.
Note: I added more information to my post above.

Actually have been using Roxio for many years. Just bought the new camera though. I learning though.
I dont need to edit video's except to add transitions between files.
Ok so..
If import files from camera to edit advanced, program says they need to be transcoded or converted. What is happening at that point. Am i losing frame rate setting of 24p?
When i add those transcoded files to the editor, then either export as , OR create DVD, there is no choice of 24frame rate?
I also noticed that if I go to production settings in the editor before import, i have the ability to change frame rate between the three choices. Once i add the video file (recoreded in 24p, and automatically transcoded by roxio) then go to production settings, the frame rate is grayed out...not avail to change.
Hey thanks for your help!!
I am going to a big car show today. You opinion shoot in 249 with cine mode, or shoot in cine mode with 30p or 60i? I am not sure what cine mode is on camera... without using the 24p actually. Someting to do with aperture?
I am a semi professional still photographer moving into video. ;-)

Transcoding the video in Video Wave does not change the frame rate; I think it has to do with muxing/demuxing.
Yes, there are several choices to output from Edit Video -Advanced. Select one of the AVCHD formats and look below it after you make the choice and you will see 24 fps. You also have a choice of "same as original" For example,
[attachment=13481:24pinterlaced.jpg]
So you are going to make an AVCHD disc (about 40 minutes of video on a single sided disc) Do you have a blu-ray player that will play an AVCHD disc? Not all will. If you are going to make a standard definition disc, what worry about frame rate.
As for the car show; What is the weather? Are the cars stationary, Are you going to have access to the cars for panning the exterior/interior? Will you be able to do a slow pan? What "story" are you going to try to tell? Who is your audience? It is really up to you.
If I were doing a technical video on a car show, I really don't need a movie quality and appearance; 24fps would be good for Weddings, Anniversaries, other special events. For a card shows, I would want clarity and no stutters unless you are putting together a movie about what a card show is about with a person telling the story. This is a drag race short at 60p. It had to be converted to flv for YouTube so some of the clarity has been lost. Any stuttering is due to the web site and your download speed. BTW, I'm an engineer by training and attitude so I tend to make more analytical films.
You can always shoot part of the show in 24fps and some of it in 60 fps to try it out. Perhaps start at 60 fps and then if it gets dark or is severely overcast, then you can switch to 24fps. If you had more time, I would have suggested that you try it first at home. In Create DVD, you can have both 24 and 60fps on the same disc (as well as standard definition).
Note skins videos are not mine; notice the spelling difference.
