How did you transfer it to dvd?  You can't simply burn it to disc as it will just be a data disc.

You have to burn the mini DV footage using DVD Builder.

If you want to edit the video first, you start by putting the video on a storyline in VideoWave.

If you did that and are still having problems, please give more details about how you burned the DVD.

When you captured the mini tape video, was it MPEG, AVI or what ? When you say you "transferred" the video what type of conection did you use ? As far as I know you can only capture using Firewire (IEEE1394) cable.

I captured with firewire. I think it was a AVI file. What am I doing wrong?

From your post, you seem to have done everuthing correctly when capturing.
Instead of directly burning to DVD, first create an ISO image file. Then use DiscCopier to burn the iso file to a DVD.

What are your computer specs, DVD burner and do you have the latest firmware for your DVD burner?

To get burner info:
right click on "my Computer", then click Properties, then Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. In the Device MAnager window click DVD/CD-ROM drives. You should then get a list of all the DVD/CD drives in your system. See top picture below. Please list them.

To create an ISO file:
in DVD Builder, when you get to the Burn Setup dialog box, uncheck the "Burn to Disc" checkbox and check the "Save Image File" checkbox. Use the Browse button to give the file a name and location.
After the ISO image file is created navigate to where the file is located and then double-click the file. DiscCOpier should open and you should be able to burn the file to a DVD.2nd picture below

It could also be possible that your are using the wrong kind of DVDs. Your burner manual should tell you what kind you should use.

I cannot find any such burner on the net. Do you have a manual for it? Does it mention what type of media to use? Have you tried -RW media?

When you create an iso file first you create an image on your hard drive of what eventually will be burned to DVD. This method first creates the image file and then you use DiscCopier to burn the image file to DVD. Separating the two stages seems to give a more reliable DVD but is not required.

The iso thing worked. I did 2 dvds this way and was able to watch them in a portbale dvd machine. It does not work on my computer because it says I need to purchase encoding or something. Do you know anything about that?

Are you trying to play the DVD with Windows Media Player?   That's usually when you get this message.

Instead use Roxio Player (in Extras & Utilities in version 7.5 ) or Cineplayer or another program specifically for playing DVDs on a computer.   Many computers come with Cyberlink Power DVD preinstalled to play DVDs.

I could not find that drive either.  The drivers for Sony products are not on their regular web site.  If the original poster goes here; perhaps they can see a familiar number.

Caution to the original poster, do not use firmware that is not specifically for that drive and follow the instructions exactly.  If not you may create a big door stop.  Get someone to help if you have any concerns.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
