Hello. I now have a Dell Pentium D 3.6 with 4 gigs of memory, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit using Roxio creator 2009 (Creator2009SP4 update). For some reason after I burn a DVD from an image, the DVD/CD icon disappears, resulting in not being able to load the DVD I burned. When I restart the computer, the DVD/CD icon returns and the DVD was successfully burned. I dual boot both Win 7 64 bit and WinXP sp3. It is way too frustrating trying to run Win 7, much less 64 bit if you want to accomplish a task. It is the sanest way to use windows till all the bugs are ironed out. Although, Win 7 64 bit has worked well for the most part if you are selective in what programs you use. I don't know if Roxio 2010 works better but from it's track record, it doesn't appear to look very promising. I hear so much complaining about it; more than usual. Of course, it doesn't mean it wouldn't work well for me.

Creator 2009 is NOT compatible with W7. It may run for a short time or some applications may run but if it does, it is only by luck.
What icon disappears?
Are those burners made by LG? The icon for the two LG that I have sometimes disappears when I look at "My Computer" f I work with audio files. An external burner does not do this. I am using Vista 64 bit.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

When you go to "My Computer", the DVD/CD icon disappears. I guess the drivers gets removed till you restart. For the most part, Roxio 2009 seems to work in Win7 ultimate 64 bit but quirky at times. I am using internal Samsung DVD burners. I will try Roxio 2010. You never know how it will work till you try it. Roxio traditionally seems to have problems adjusting to new operating systems. I remember I started using Nero when WinXP came out because Roxio 5 just wouldn't work right in the beginning. I didn't like Roxio again till version 7.5. You don't seem to hear of Nero having problems like Roxio but I just never cared for their interface.

I really don't use Win7 that much, except to see what works and what doesn't. Should I bother to uninstall Roxio 2009 or could I just install 2010 over 2009? Sometimes I hate to uninstall Roxio due to potential problems in the past due to uninstallations. I have plenty of space. I installed Win7 on a 750 gig hard drive.

I thnk that is up to you. Wahte do you need in Creator 2009 that you don't have in Creator 2010. Remember that projects made in Creator 2009 are probably not going to work at all in Creator 2010.

It's just ever since I uninstalled Roxio media creator 9 and it completely screwed my DVD driver where I had to reinstall Windows XP to get it back, I've been leary to uninstall anything Roxio. It seems like a crap shot to me if I uninstall it.

Actually the 'loss' of an optical drive in XP was an admitted MICROSOFT problem and they have a full KB article on that
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I decided to uninstall 2009 as instructed by Roxio. There were no problems. Installation of Roxio 2010 also went well. So far everything seems to be working. I can add another program that appears to work with Win7 64 bit. But time will tell, as I haven't tried everything. The only odd thing was that Sonicfire required installation as administrator.

Everything should be installed to an administrator account.
