I use Popcorn all of the time. I use it to burn TV series DVDs to lend to friends and for back ups of my own. I've never had a problem with it ever. Until today.

Trying to burn a dvd resulted in a message saying "file won't fit on the DVD." I have the auto-compression on and have done nothing differently than I ever do when burning a DVD. Why is this happening?

Maybe the source has PCM audio instead of AC-3 audio (or both). Check the custom settings to see if there are multiple audio tracks and disable any PCM audio if present. PCM audio is uncompressed and can take up so much space that there isn't room for much video on a single-layer disc.

You don't mention how much total video you are trying to fit to the single-layer disc. This, too, can be an issue because Popcorn can only fit so much before it reaches it's maximum compression level.

The audio type says Dolby Digital. That seems to be the only option (if I'm looking in the right place). And the file size is 6.8 GB. I just burned some DVDs last night that were over 7GB, so that's while I feel like this is some sort of error.

Any other ideas?

My next question would be about a DL DVD. If I buy some DL DVDs would either my 2007 13" Macbook, or my 2010 22" iMac be able to burn them? I don't know much about them. Do they play in any DVD player? If you have any info on those that would be very helpful.

There shouldn't be any problem but I do recommend the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs as most reliable. You can see what disc media types your Mac supports by opening System Profiler and selecting the Disc Burning item.

The fact that it works with some and not others suggests to me that there is either too much content or the original's bit rate or resolution are already so low that Popcorn can't do much additional compression.

check the size of your file and the media size capability If the file size is larger then media then this type of prblm occurs.
