I have Roxio Easy Media Creator Home Version: 9.0.178 on a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista.  I run into this problem where I will burn a DVD or CD to back up data and it will always seem to find a couple of file names that don't fit the protocol, ask me if I want to proceed without burning those, and then do so or not depending on my choice.

My problem is that a box opens up showing there is an error but I can never see the full file name so that I can go change it to something Roxio will accept.  I can't expand the error box, or maximize it.   Here's an example of what it might look like:

http://desktop/stuff/musi......

So let's say that is the music folder.  I can't see the name of the file and can't figure out how I might be able to.  Any help is most appreciated.  Since it's usually only one or two files, it's really no problem to just rename them, if I knew what they were!

Well, it is pretty difficult to see your desktop.  Why don't you look just below where you are adding text and look for the Attachments area.  Browse to the file and open it, then attach this file.

Do some of your files have very long paths and files names?  You can change the file system for the data discs (including mp3 discs).  What application are you using to burnt he data discs?  If you are using Creator Classic (Data Disc Advanced) you can switch to UDF, no bridge to get longer file names on the disc..

Let me rephrase my question:

1.  I'm using the program Roxio Easy Media Creator Home Version: 9.0.178

2.  I use it to back up data on my hard drive, either on DVD or CD.  I only use the program for the purposes of burning data discs.

3.  Every time I use it to do so, it will always stop before it burns the disc and give me a message saying several files have names it can't accept.  

4.  The problem it that it doesn't tell me what those names are;  an error box opens up and only shows part of the path.  It never shows all the way to the file name and their is no way to expand the box so I can see it.

The link in my previous post was simply an example.

JoeJoe, this is a screen clip from my EMC 9. Please try this:



On a line between File and Error, there is a small vertical column separator. When you move your mouse pointer over that separator and left-click, it will assume the shape shown in the clip. Drag it to the right to expand the File column to see more of the filename and path.



If that does not show you enough of the filename and path, move the blue slider at the bottom of the box to the right, and then expand the File column some more.



If necessary, keep alternating between moving the slider and expanding the column until you can see the entire file name.
When renaming your errant files, please bear in mind that the permissible length in Roxio Creator 9 Home - Burn Data Disc is 106 characters and that may well include the length of the path to the file.

All fixed now??

Thanks so much.  That was it.  I had actually tried this all over the box before posting but I guess I wasn't nailing the specific place.  This saves me having to use file renaming software just to burn data discs.

I've attached a pic of another error screen I'm also getting for which I don't have an answer.  With this screen I see no way to find out the file names of the offending parties.
