I often have an unsuccessful burn to dvd (using creator 9) with the error message 8000-4003. I've found that others have the same error message code as well.

But I can't find any directions to a section which explains what the code signifies - is there a area which dissects the codes in the same way that a googled microsoft error message code results in a "do this, do that, do the other" - most of the posts on the Roxio site seem to want extra information - I'd just feel happy knowing what the detail is regarding 8000-4003 - it must mean something as it appears every time the burn fails (but the burn doesn't fail every time and the blank disc works when the programme doesn't fail with 8000-4003 so it's not the disc).

Is there a glossary for solutions to dedicated error messages or does error code 8000-4003 mean different things on different operating sustems/computers ? I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the direction of a glossary and their respectful solutions if it exists. Many thanks and I'll be back after a reboot.

What computer do you have?  Have you updated the drivers for your video device?  Do do first.  See if there is a firmware update for your burner. Be careful and follow directions exactly.  Reinstall Microsoft's .net framework.  Use this as a guide.
Next What brand of discs are you using?  The error is a burn error so it can be the disc or it can mean you burner is going belly-up.  Get good discs - Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (JVC) and try those.  Do not use Memorex or store brands.

If the burn fails with the good discs, then you should replace your burner.

Intermittent problems are the hardest to find and fix.  If you use good quality discs, that takes out some of the variability of the disc manufacture (QA).

Thanks for the reply - I'm grateful. However, I'm looking for a glossary of error codes and their solutions. Surely the programmer who managed to attach a number to an error code must have some idea what the solution is (without having to go through different makes of computer, operating system etc etc).

I believe that your question needs to be addressed by either Microsoft or your Burner's manufacture.  Roxio just talks to the burner to tell it to burn and if the burner can't burn, Roxio reports the error sent back by the burner.  

There is no glossary that you can get from Roxio.  Again try Microsoft or your burner manufacturer.  Perhaps they can help.

Error 80004003 is an "Invalid Pointer Error".

Try going to your Windows Start button, Run, and executing the following command
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Re-registering that DLL has helped cure this error in EMC 9 in the past.

It came off the Microsoft Support site, waaaay back.

I'm afraid I've never been able to find a table or glossary of these error numbers [it would be just too useful] so you have to go after them piecemeal.

Yes, that's what I thought.  1) It is a Microsoft error number and not a Roxio one. and 2) There is no one place where you can get the errors in a glossery (for this type of error number).

Hi folks - many thanks for the responses. I'll file the registry tweak away for the next time it happens.

Strangely, I shut down the computer last night with the blank DVD in the drive, and this morning, re-booted, and have managed to burn two 90 minute films with no errors at all, one on the DVD which was in the drive yesterday when the error message popped up.

Temperamental or what ?

If the tweak works the next time I have the error, I'll post back.
