just started using popcorn 2 the other day on my iBook G4. the dvd i backed up will play on a friend's pc and on a dvd player, but not on my mac.

i insert the disc, finder reads it as dvd media, and the icon appears on the desktop. the dvd media player doesn't automatically open like other non-burnt dvds. when i start the dvd player manually, and try playing the copied dvd, a message appears reading 'Media type not supported'.

all the files seem to be there, it just won't play. am i missing something obvious here? what do i need to do to be able to watch the copied dvd on my iBook like i can using the original?

thanks in advance for your feedback,

i've tried a couple different Sony brands of DVD-Rs, and some no-name DVD-Rs. neither work on my iBook. i've read some bad things on this discussion board about the Matshita DVD-R UJ-845E super drives (which is what i've got) in that they're very picky about what media they play. with so many DVD makers out there, one would think that the superdrive makers would be careful to make a universally acceptable media player.

anyway, i'm thinking about taking the iBook, along with the burnt DVDs to the shop where i bought the computer and trying the discs on other similar drives.

can you recommend a media brand that works for you?

thanks

Personally I use RiData medias and they work for me... however, Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden make the best media available... I would give them a try if I were to have a burn problem...

thanks.

i have an update from an experiment i performed yesterday. went to the mac store and tried the burnt disc on another computer with the same make of superdrive. it worked fine. then i tried on my computer for the service person. guess what... it worked. well, she said that sometimes things work well in the showroom because the temperature and humidity is finely controlled, unlike my apartment in Okinawa, where temperature and humidity can be very high to extreme. this doesn't explain why it wouldn't work in my office where the airconditioning is always on. after returning home, i tried the same disc again and it worked. if the inconsistency continues, i'll use my warranty and have the drive replaced.

will keep you updated on further developments.
anyone else have these problems?

At our house we have a standard joke that the reason our electronic equipment breaks down is it wants to go for a ride in the car. There are many times stuff worked again by the time it arrived at the repair shop.

But following the advice given by the repair shop, there could have been moisture condensation in the drive that finally dried up.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
