I have a Treo 650 on the Sprint network. The videos that it makes are "3gpp". Quick time converts them, but the sound is terrible, very distorted.

Will this do the coversion with good sound, and also without having to run quicktime?
BTW I am running windows XP personal.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Bernard,

The 3GP Decoder Pack does not convert files itself, it just adds codec support to the system so you can play them back in programs that use standard DirectShow calls, such as Windows Media Player. The Sprint Treo 650 creates .3g2 files (same as 3GPP) which have audio encoded using a codec called QCELP. We are working on an update to the decoder pack which includes support for this audio codec. Currently, if you install the decoder pack and attempt to associate the .3gp files with Windows Media Player you will be able to play the video but no audio.

BTW, We have also seen problems with QuickTime and the Treo 650 files (audio dropout, etc).

We'll post an update here when the updated decoder pack is available.

Thanks, The Labs

Hi,

I downloaded the latest codecs back in December 2006 and still am not able to hear audio from my Treo 650 videos. Have there been any updates since then?

Yes, the build posted up there today supports the 3g2 files, which the Treo 650 produces. If you bought the 1.0 version of the 3gp pack, you can use your serial number to get the update. Just go to the 3GP Pack product page from the labs site. www.roxiolabs.com.

Good luck!

I have a Treo 700 and it creates .3g2 files. I ordered this decoder and it behaved the same way before I purchased it.

The software does do what your website advertises. I tried contacting support they said I need to go to live chat. There I found ask Roxy and that did not even have the product I purchased. I have spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to get help from your facility and want a refund.

Sorry that you are having so much trouble. If I could ask you to try one more thing... We are posting a new build today that supports Windows Vista, Windows Media Player 11, and fixes problems with many new types of phones. If this new build does not solve the problem then we will take it to the next level.

Thanks so much.

Hi,

How do I get the latest version? I downloaded "roxio 3gpdecoder_100b19c_rlb.exe" today but that looks identical to a file I downloaded months/weeks ago.

I can view my Treo 650 .3g2 files, but I do not get any audio.

Thanks

Tom

The link has been fixed. Thanks for catching that!! It was correct a couple days ago but seems to have reverted somehow.

OK, thanks. Got the new download and it appears that I can hear. Yeah! (it's not as clear when played by Quick Time, but this is great.)

The problem now is that when I try to import my Treo .3g2 videos into Microsoft's Movie Maker, the app crashes. Any thoughts?

Hmm, MovieMaker should use standard Dshow calls, but with Microsoft you never know. We'll see if we can reproduce this.

Are you using XP or Vista. In our tests, XP Movie Maker did not allow import of these files regardless of whether the 3gp Decoder Pack was installed or not, but on Vista installing the 3gp Pack allowed full support of those files in MovieMaker.
