Bad device driver?  Maybe that's why Roxio switched from Pinnacle's device to KWorld?

Jim, I have to agree with his question though, if Roxio recognizes it as a valid video device, why isn't it letting him select an alternative audio input, as I can using the USB 2861 device?
Because the Drivers prevent it!

I have a 1394 A/D converter that shows up in Capture and I can see Video. But it does not work in Win7 and fails as soon as I hit Capture…

I don't have the Pinnacle device but it is typical behavior of something that is only compatible with its' custom software…

I also have an Aiptek Video Camcorder that connects via its' built in USB. NOTHING can make use of it except is custom software! :(

It seems everyone keeps getting hung up on this so let me try and explain again.

I'm NOT using the pinnacle device for audio.  I'm merely trying to use the sound card on my computer through Roxio.
As the pic shows in a previous posting - I should be able to select an audio device from the options menu in Roxio but the menu is "blank" which isn't right.  Also, pinnacle, windows, whatever - is NOT disabling or muting or preventing devices on the system from using the audio from the sound card.  I can use the audio from the sound card for anything I want (but Roxio) while capturing video through the pinnacle device.  Therefore, this really looks to me like a bug in Roxio - because Roxio is not providing the option to use the sound card - which should be completely outside of any pinnacle software dependency. - Roxio provides the audio input selection menu for a reason don't they?

You are still getting hung up on one point

If you use the Pinnacle device - it WILL disable your audio. You HAVE to use the Pinnacle s/w to get it to work. You can't use it for one part and expect the other part to work separately.

It expects the audio to come via the interface - if it's not there then you don't GET any audio
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I don't know if this would work, but to test Daithi's point, what happens if you go into Video Capture with your Pinnacle device disconnected.  Can you get to the Options button and see any other audio devices?  (Again, I haven't tried going in there without a video capture device connected, so I don't know how it would work.  I'll try to check on my system later.)

I am using the pinnacle device, it has not disabled my audio.  Roxio provides a feature to select other audio input devices other than the video capture device - such as line in etc.  That feature doesn't seem to be working correctly.

Although its irrelevant - and you'll see why by the end of this post hopefully - it was version 10 of pinnacle studio - which cannot be installed in win 7 - hence why I tried to use roxio - and in case your wondering - and yes I did download, install and am using the latest win7 64 bit drivers for the usb-500 device.   ;)

- with no video capture device I think the audio input options are not available.  It was a week or two ago since I ran past that in trouble shooting.

The audio input options are available again if a video capture source is connected however.

I don't think you are understanding what is being said.  The Pinnacle Device in no way does ANYTHING to your audio device.  We know that.  What you don't seem to understand is that when you plug in the DVC 500, it prevents Creator 2011 from 'seeing' any other audio device because the audio should be captured through it.  Not from any other source.  USB capture devices has always been a hit or miss under Windows.  That's why special software is included with each device that was designed specifically for that device.  We have found that the "U" in USB doesn't necessarily mean 'universal'.  Just ask anyone that has purchased a USB Turntable!

I think it was Creator 2009 Special Edition that Roxio shipped the Pinnacle DVC90 device. We had all kinds of issues with it.  Roxio now ships a USB capture device that appears to be from KWorld.  There were some issues with it at first, but Roxio released updated drivers so things now work as it should.

I understand what you are saying here - but it sounds ridiculous to route a Line Input from the sound card through the pinnacle driver and/or subvert Roxio software to pinnacle driver control for a device (sound card) that has nothing to do with pinnacle.  Roxio software has full visibility to any system devices through Windows just like any other software item - I'm not buying it - that only confirms its a Roxio bug - btw - take a look at this pic if you haven't yet.

The Pinnacle device EXPECTS the sound to be connected to IT. The sound MUST GO through the Pinnacle device to be captured with the video.  AFTER it goes through the Pinnacle device, the sound is THEN routed to sound card so you can hear it as it is captured.

Once you plug in the Pinnacle device, IT prevents Roxio from seeing other audio input (poorly written driver).  The image you posted is with the ROXIO device attached and it does NOT block other audio inputs.  The Pinnacle device isn't the only USB capture device that doesn't work with Creator Suite.  If you use the software that came with the device, it will work.  You should be complaining to Avid/Pinnacle if their software doesn't work in Win7.However, there are many USB and PCI analog capture devices which have properly written Windows drivers that work fine with Creator.
