I downloaded some AVI files from the net.  When I go to the DVD Builder dialog and ADD CONTENT, the Open dialog shows a bunch of MOV files (that's good), and a couple of AVI files, but they have a circle with a line drawn through them, and if I click them, I cant add them to the project.

How do I work with these AVI files?  Might they be in some kind of format that doesnt allow editing?  How do I find out?

TIA
Jerry

First off I have to ask for the obvious...

Do you have any other avi files and are they recognized and usable?

Are these files in question copyrighted?

Oddly enough I've also seen movie files circulate over the net with incorrect extentions....e.g., an avi has an mpeg extention or the other way around and won't be recognized properly.

I had this happen and for me it was an avi codec problem. If you Google avi codec you will get hits where you can download a codec for free.Run the codec and then see if you can use the file.

Another good tool is GSpot. It will tell you if you have the needed codec and which one you need if you don't have it.
