Hi guys,
Just wondering can you add additional drives, NAS storage to the streamer app, as my music collection isn't on the C:\ drive of my PC.

I haven't used it or played with it.  Have you read the "Getting Started Guide"?  That may be a question to ask Roxio via phone support.

Yep tried that first, this is about as much information given in the help file.
"Here’s the simplest way to add files to your media library:
1 Open Roxio Streamer Agent by clicking its icon in the Windows taskbar.
2 Select Explore my Roxio Streamer folders.
3 Double-click Family Library to reveal the following folders: FamilyDocuments, FamilyMusic, FamilyPhotos, and
FamilyVideo.
4 Add files and folders to any of these four directories.
The next time you open your library in the Roxio Streamer Application, the files you added will appear. Use the Roxio
Streamer Application to organize files into albums"

All you are able to do is add files to the "familylibaray" and "External Storage" which was created by the streamer install, both of which are shared folders on the C:\ drive.

Another suggesttion, there is a Toast10 for Mac version of Streamer.  Perhaps if you post your question in that part of the forum and explain that you have the PC version, someone may have an idea.

You will not be able to mount a NAS within the Roxio Streamer, but plugging a USB drive to your PC will make it appear in the "External Storage" section.

I too would like to add Extrenal drives (or even select/move the Streamer Media drives) but can't find any documentation on how to do that.  I've turned off and on USB drives as suggested but that didn't do anything.

I find the lack of documentation for Streamer to be frustrating... the manual is very basic.  Does anyone know where to find better doc?

Same here, tried everything I can figure to get am xternal USB to be "EXTERNAL" Suerely they didn't leave this bug.  I try to minimize all data on my op sys drive.  Anyone else got an idea?

One of the other reply's said add a usb attached drive and it will appear in external. I have my music, video, etc on and external usb connected device and it certainly does not appear in external. Also the documentation does not seem to mention 'External'.

I put in a help tickket but their response was to send me links to their useless documentation and help. Boy this product was launched in a very lame manner. And the trouble ticket comments were totaly useless.

Perhaps a shame as I might like to actually use this product but other products seem to be much easier to use.. like Orb....

After quite a bit of dinking around I finally figured out how to get my extenal usb archive of music and video hooked up to streamer.

1. Right click on the "Roxio Streamer Agent"
2. Select "Explore My Roxio Streamer Folders"
3. Open your External Storage Folder.

Now here is the key and where I went wrong. IF you already have your external usb drive hooked up Roxio Streamer will never find it and you can't make it find it.... BUT if you Eject Your drive and wait a few minutes....

Unplug your USB connection and then plug it back in again WITH your Streamer External Folder still open in the Streamer App or Exploring ...

4. After a while right click and refresh in the external folder and your drive will have magically appeard.
5. Now you can eject and reconnect your drive with your media on it an Roxio Streamer will see it fine and you can build albums..

I wonder if this works with multiple external hard drives? I have 3.5 TB (total) of external music and videos on 2 externals and only one is showing up.

Thank you all for pointing out this limitation of Streamer.  I just installed Creator 2011 Pro and decided to look into Streamer before installing it.  I now realize that while Streamer may work for some, Streamer (as-is) will not work for me.  Hopefully "Streamer - The Next Generation" will fulfill my needs.

Here are the "Enhancements" I would need to see in order to use Streamer.

1) Streamer really needs to NOT copy your media files, but catalog their locations and then only access them read-only. I have my files on a server with five 4 TB RAID arrays (yes, more than 26 hard drives, and yes, Windows supports more than 26 drives).  I'm not about to copy my media files to some other location, least of all on the "C" drive (but of course they wouldn't fit there).  I'm also not about to run streamer on the server (assuming the software would run on it).  Streamer should be able to access media on Network Shares, whether they are shared by Windows box(es), Linux box(es), or device(s) like the WD TV Live.  As long as all the files being streamed are on shares on the local LAN there shouldn't be a problem.

2) Have the option to NOT use the standard HTTPd, FTP, etc. ports.  It seems that every utility now days wants to install its own server on the standard ports.  That may be fine for uncle Joe who is barely computer literate, but for anyone who does much with their computer, this "use the standard ports" approach causes a nightmare of software conflicts.  At a minimum, have an "Expert Mode" where those who already have Apache, an FTP server, etc. running can configure Streamer to use other ports.

I'm looking forward to "Streamer - The Next Generation", and awaiting its arrival.

I agree with johnkorb.  Adding a feature to NOT copy all files locally to the //Roxio_streamer directory will be a HUGE improvement.  I have 30gb plus of pictures and videos (all mixed) that are sitting on an external drive.  Even if I could copy them locally, what happens when I get around to touching up some old photos.  Will I have to make changes twice???

There has to be some way to do this via a virtual link to the directory.  Now that would be nice!

sgilbreth, You are asking a question on a 18 month old thread.  Many people would not see it.  Please start a new thread and ask your question there.  Make sure you add your complete computer specs.  Are you using Streamer?

Streamer has been dropped from the most recent versions of Creator so I'm not sure how much work Roxio will put into improving it.
