That error code seems to have too many numbers. Is there an error message that goes along with it? My guess is that you will have to remove and reinstall EMC7.
Did you install the MS applications individaully or did they come with a XP service pack?

The full message was "Error updating menu 1 of 1 (menu writing phase) Error code=0x80004005118 I have tried to remove all the MS applications, starting with XP service pack 3, but it does not seem to want to completely remove them. I re-opened IE to check if it rolled back to IE 6, and it won't display anything - just the browser window. Not sure where to go from here. If I remove and re-install EMC 7, will I have to re-capture the video I am working with?
I did change media from maxell to memorex, and I got the video to burn, but the sound is choppy and then the volume disappears. Never seen this one before either. Thanks for any help you may provide.

First let's see if EMC 7 Wiveo Wave is broken. Instead of burning the project directly to a disc, when you go to burn do you have the options to burn to an ISO file? It has been a long time and I just don't remember but it should. If so, do that. If it encodes then so far so good. Post back at that time.
Do you have a disc that is labeled "contents" is so, try just reinstalling that.
If not, did you create a restore point before you installed the SP3 and updates (I hope)? You can try to roll back your computer to the old settings.
You can try removing EMC using Revo Uninstaller (free) in the MODERATE MODE. Download it and remove all Sonic and Roxio applications. You should not lose any of your projects but make a back up just in case.
Do this and then try reinstalling. Obviously do not update XP to SP3.
I think SP3 screwed up EMC 7 and nothing will get it back to perfect running condition.

Windows XP - SP3 doesn't screw up EMC 7. At least the revised SP3 version doesn't. IE7 was taken out of the revised version of SP3. I have EMC 7 or EMC 7.5 running on my backup computer, with XP3 installed. I experience no problems.

I think you are right about SP3 - I cannot seem to remove it with any of the MS methods short of messing with system items that I do not understand. I have made a copy of my project on the external hard drive, and it saved as an .MPEG file - don't know what an ISO file is. I cannot make my system reinstall EMC 7 from the CD because it says it cannot find the file, etc.
I did burn a copy of the project from the hard drive (mpeg) to a disc using Sonic record now, but my DVD player says it cannot read the disc - not good. I think I may just take the mini DV tape to someone who has a better program to burn it to dvd until I update my copy. I've had enough problems with these PC's to make me want to try a Mac. Thanks for your help!

Copying your project to a disc using Sonic record does not create a video DVD that can be played on a DVD player, all you have created is a data DVD with the file on it. To create avideo DVD you have to use the program that "authors" a DVD. ( I forgot what that program is called in EMC 7/7.5)

Ok - so I didn't give up yet, and I unistalled/re-installed EMC 7 with the revo program, and I was able to burn the project to an ISO file on the hard drive. Now for my stupid question - how do I burn it to a DVD from there? I was going to try to burn it direct when I was in DVD builder, but it would not show my E drive as an option. Not sure why, and I saw no setup part of the program so I could make it recognize my burner drive. any more suggestions from the gurus? Thanks in advance....

You use Disc Copier, which is a program in the EMC 7 suite. When you open Disc Copy, click in the circle to the left of Disc Image or DVD-Video Folder, below Source. Then, click Select, and browse to your .iso file, and select it.
Now, put a blank DVD into your burner, and on the Destination side, make sure that Recorder is shown in that box. If not, click on the drop down arrow, and see if it is there. If your burner is shown, and selected, click on the Burn button in the upper right corner of the screen,
If Roxio doesn't see your burner, then you need to download and run the pxengine download, in the following link. Download, and install, the 2nd one down.
